Concordia de Stelymere of the Red Sun
As well as local single-heliosphere Pact militias, there are a few inter-sphere militia forces that owe allegiance only to themselves and the wider ideals of the People’s Galactic rather than a specific faction or organization. The Red Sun, more fully The Common Militia of the Red Sun Decree, is amongst the most well-known of these, and has been operating around the 2Gen and 3Gen arrays for more than six hundred years. Its name derives from a historic meeting of thirteen militia commanders during the Gadymere-Shayang War who met in the Stelymere system, characterized by its red giant star, and chose one of their number to assume overall command of all forces that were currently fighting in the defence of Gadymere and its allied worlds.
The Red Sun is an unabashed paramilitary organization, though by necessity it lacks the highest echelon logistics and command of a true army and inter-sphere operations are more akin to a compact of allied forces than a single military entity. Even so, the Red Sun has a written charter, shared oath of conduct, legal and political representation in the spheres where it operates, and a coherent rank structure, which shape the look, behaviour, and hierarchy of each of its ‘concords’, so-called because each military division was signed into the original alliance with its own concord. Officially, each concord is titled after its world of origin, with the founding Gadymere, Stelymere, Isayama and Alquista Concords being the most prestigious. Unofficially, each concord has a ‘People’s Name’, such as Nortago’s No Retreat Brigade, the Ironhearts from Delphys, or Morison’s Marauders.
