Green Gullet

The Land of Bounty

The bandits of The Bloody Cross pressed their Blitzle as they rode through the grassy plains of Green Gullet on a clear and beautiful day. The only thing louder than the ceaseless clopping of hooves was the rolling cloud of lightning and fury keeping pace above them, crackling with sparks and jolts that invigorated their steeds and charged them with the energy they needed to keep up with the train. King had guided them and everything they needed from across the salt sea, and their camp was set up in the rolling hills of the valley, hidden from monsters and humans alike... only a kilometer away from the new railroad headed to Patrala Nagara. Disabling this technological marvel was going to be quick, easy, and very, very lucrative. After all, everything that made it so appealing to build through here is what made it so easy to assault...

Geography

Green Gullet is a longitudinal valley located between The Motionless Heights and The Teeth that is 66 miles long at its widest and 10 miles at its thinnest and has the Hermit's Stream running through most of it, letting out into the Foggy Mire near Nastor to the west. Namaku Samudra contains Mummy's Isle and separates it from The Curious Savannah to the east - a thin passage to the south leads to Cape Hope. There are two major landmarks in the area: Shadow's Summit near Nastor, which always seems to be under nightfall in certain areas, and the Greenwood, the largest nontropical forest in Zamzara - it takes up nearly half of the Gullet and lets out near Cape Hope.

The valley dominates most of the hospitable land in southern Zamzara and has arable soil and warm climate nearly year-round with sporadic bouts of rain; monsters migrating after winter's end often come here for food and mating purposes. The forests are coniferous and largely consistent of pine trees that have adapted to the heat and the fungi and herbs accompanying them. The Hermit's Stream and its tributaries are the only major sources of fresh water for the region and competition over it is fierce for man and beast - it is not uncommon for bands of humans to wander upriver to clear out a den of monsters that have decided to monopolize it... or vice versa.

Fauna & Flora

There are currently five confirmed entrances to The Nashya within Green Gullet, but despite this, the monsters here are among the weakest in all Zamzara - there are few apex predators and much of the wildlife consists of herbivorous and phototrophic monsters that rarely reach their final state. This phenomenon has gone mostly unexplained by scholars, as the evidence suggests the ecological limit of the valley is not strained and could support more monstrous life - and this is without touching the fact that many monsters simply terraform their environments to suit them or nest elsewhere. As a result, the Grass-element monsters have great reign and tend to their surroundings, making the ground far more fertile than it would be normally, which the farmers of the Gullet are amenable to.

The lack of powerful monsters does not make travel completely safe, but it is not unheard of for single, well-armed persons to head from town to town relatively unmolested. Because of this, trade in the region is quite prolific and people are more eager to travel and adventure than in other places - it would not be possible for the railroad of Patrala Nagara to have been built had its workers been constantly assailed. Before The Kalyugi, Green Gullet was mostly farmland and wilderness with a single barely developed port city that fell quickly and few people were eager to claim the wilds, but now the safety and development has begun to attract travelers from all around the continent looking for a manageable frontier. While it may be difficult to get here, many who arrive stay for the rest of their lives in relative peace and quiet.

In the Greenwood lie the most dangerous and devious monsters in Green Gullet - beasts that steal children, burn crops, and devour travelers. Due to this ferocity, scholars theorize that there are many Nashyan entry points hidden in the forests, but few people travel deeply or thoroughly enough through the woods to verify this. There are no known villages here. Shadow's Summit is routinely avoided, even by adventurers with more ambition than sense. The nocturnal monsters have a thirst for blood, and strange albino dragons have been spotted by returning survivors who have aged years in their short experiences with them. They rarely leave the area, and it is believed that the entire mountain is cursed and the monsters within are being punished.

Natural Resources

Green Gullet is a land of plenty, idyllically suited for all manner of subtropical agriculture, mining, and lumber working. The woods are full of monsters so weak that groups of hunters can regularly hunt them for meat and basic monster components with relatively few casualties, and fishing is a common source of food for those living by Namaku Samudra, often supplemented by seaweed and/or rice. Zamzaleaf is native to this area and grows especially well in the open, warm sun - it is still one of the most lucrative crops to grow, especially as civilization slowly stitches itself back together.
