Namaku Samudra

The Lost Waters

"Namaku Samudra, the Salt Sea, is the largest body of water in Zamzara and is one of the most dangerous regions within the Adept Threat Range. While not as threatening as the endless ocean around it, most travelers still avoid traversing it due to the large numbers of carnivorous marine monsters and the treacherous waters. Namaku's waters are incapable of supporting human life due to the incredible concentration of salt, which seems to grow in proportion every year. The monsters here have acclimated to the saltwater. It is believed that they are the source for the increasing saltiness of Namaku, which should be far less saline according to environmental factors. Those sailing the salt sea should hasten to leave as soon as possible."

Geography

Namaku Samudra is the largest inland sea in Zamzara - it is composed of two salt lakes joined by a channel, each of which is roughly 4,500 square miles. The average depth of the sea is 100 meters, but the deepest known point reaches over 300 meters into the earth. Namaku feeds out into the ocean through the Hand of the Hidoi and is surrounded by many other regions. Travelling in the area is discouraged due to the tidal variance - the waters shift up to 50 meters per day during Spring, making the waters incredibly choppy and hard to navigate in most of the time. The water here is actually 5 times saltier than the ocean due to the limited river run-off and lack of precipitation, and many creatures float more easily in it. Namaku was not as inhospitable before The Kalyugi, so it is believed that monsters are making the sea even more hostile to other life, for whatever purposes.

Fauna & Flora

Monsters native to this area tend to be Water-types that can withstand the high salinity of the sea. The water is too salty to support much plant life and it temporarily appears only during extensive periods of rain - because of this, the monsters here are largely carnivorous, sometimes going onto land to secure food. The water cannot be drunk by humans without extensive filtration, the science of which is beyond most villages along the coast. Scholars believe that Namaku is deep enough to possibly have ways into The Nashya, but none have been recorded thus far.

Natural Resources

Namaku Samudra is a natural deposit for numerous chemicals that cannot be easily found elsewhere, potash and saltpeter being the most notable among them. These resources are typically evaporated from water or gathered from veins during the low tide. The vigor of the sea makes collecting anything from it incredibly difficult and only trained sailors dare to traverse it. If one can withstand the violent assault from the monsters they catch, then there are plenty of fishing opportunities as well.
