Deep Gnomes
The Deep Gnomes are a sub-species of Gnome that hail from the lands of the Abasid Caliphate within the Undying Desert. They are distinct from their cousins the Rock Gnomes due to their dark skin and their propensity for magic. They are typically seen as having average intelligence. The species is known generally for their adeptness at tunnelling underground and for their seeming knack for mastering different forms of magic.

History
The species is thought by scholars to have been created by the goddess Alari as apart of a contest between herself and her husband the god Tarsen. The purpose of this contest is lost to time but it is believed that she created the Deep Gnomes and her husband created the Rock Gnomes. The species is thought by historians to have originated somewhere within the Undying Desert with most agreeing that they originate from the area around the Pyramid of the Moon specifically. The species is said to get its name from the fact that they used to tunnel far into the sands of the desert to escape the desert heat. The species is thought to have come into early contact and conflict with the other main species of the area, the Dark Elves and Yuan-Ti sometime shortly after the Conjoining of the Stars. This conflict is thought to have been won by the Yuan-Ti and they became the dominant species of the three. The Deep Gnomes have coexisted with the other two species as a main member of the Abasid Caliphate since this time.
