Review Summer Camp 2023

And another Summer Camp is behind me. On the positive side, I overachieved my goal, which is of course much easier if you don't set yourself the maximum goal, as is so often the case. But first things first.

Given the circumstances ... copper

Well, what was the starting position? I hadn't really written since the last Reading Challenge, err the New Year's Resolution. Which - as people who follow my general articles and entries know - is actually a very nice, if exhausting and time-consuming, background. I miss the Discord people, because given enough time and energy it's really fun to be there, but right now it's just not possible. Or not meaningfully possible, no one really gets anything out of a simple "Hi" without really reading.
Besides, my creativity was in the basement. The world was there, a few thoughts too, but more? No, I'm more into non-fiction books about child development and the like at the moment. And then it was clear that I would start working again on 24 July. So it happened that I only set myself the target for copper. And honestly just hoped that I could get back in and manage it. Sure, after a bit of wishful thinking, I would have liked to have had more, but I really couldn't make that as a promise.

Hey, silver

At the beginning I watched how some people developed a real run. CrazyEddie, for example, for whom I'm really happy that he has so much support in the community. For myself it looked rather bad, because once again (that's often a general problem with me ;) ) I didn't really get into it and couldn't clear my head enough. But in the end it was silver. Wow.
How did it come about? Well, quite honestly, I have my dear husband to thank for that, who knew how much this and my creativity actually meant to me and tried to create space for me so that I could really write, finally almost pushing me to start. After it was up and running. Just again, by the way. So I was able to work my way in and get creative again. And besides, I really liked the last wave of prompts about communication. They made it possible for me not only to write something in my world, but also to work out one of my elemental peoples properly - which was more important to me than writing even more prompts (because yes, once again I didn't keep it short ;) ). In this sense, many, many thanks to the creative people for these great prompts. In this sense I am quite happy, even if the perfectionist in me would have liked to do more. But before the view now

on the actual Reading Challenge 2023

Short preface (really). So again you're supposed to choose three prompts and comment on them, learn. Well, last time I chose my weaknesses, but since you're supposed to strengthen your (supposed) strengths.... this time I'll look at what I like to write about. People, species and... Food (I actually had a cool idea there. Well, soon hopefully).

Wow. Why? Because Jaime's approach is really different from the typical standard, whereas I'm more in the classic Wikipedia style. I think it's great to see such a break with conventions (another person's point of view and letter) and am therefore considering whether I shouldn't also deviate from the standard now and then.

This article here is more classic, but I really like how the character it's about comments on the article itself. Honestly, I loved it, "sons of angels" was particularly brilliant. I'll see if I can't incorporate something like that for myself - at least for people who might know they're being written about. Or in other words. I'll have to think about that.

Even more classic, but apart from the fact that the article is a good example that even your own drawings can greatly enhance an article (especially if you can do it like nnie or also kveld and panthers, to name a few) it restricts itself nicely to the essentials (and I like its content very much in terms of development). For not-so-important characters, I should really get into the habit of a "focus."

What I really like about Eddie's articles are the comments, which - somewhat unclassically - tend to be at the bottom. To be honest, I wouldn't have thought of using them like that with dishes, especially as they add even more information, but there my thinking was probably - once again - limited. Really nice. Also, I think gimmicky food is funny.

This was such a surprise too. On the one hand, it goes into the background of the name (well, I could have expected that from Kveld) and then it is more about a dish genre and not a dish per se. But what I took away above all is that you can also accommodate language development here. Very cool.

Not to bring up chocolate.... no, I think it's great how garlic is brought into the world here in the sense of a transfer with a nice variation. I still have a lot from this world that I would need in Yenort. But not 1 to 1, but adapted. This is a nice example.

Apart from the fact that I find the species very successful, I also find the article design very good. How beautifully you can spruce up the classic key data and divide everything up clearly. And of course, how much comments help here, too. I could really learn a lot there.

Also a very successful species, which is once again brought to the point (and has a great name). But the really interesting thing for me are the different theories. I really should remember that better, because it's a nice touch.

Actually I read the article because of something else and then I was surprised. I expected to read something about the species, which of course I did here. But the focus of the article shifted to the beneficiaries of the plant. If something is more a means to an end, maybe I should give it more space in articles. For World Ember, I can well imagine that...

and so to the goals for the next half year

Haha. Alright, seriously. In December, my husband has parental leave and holiday, so I'm hoping Wold Emberwith his 10,000 words will work out this time. I mean, at summer camp it got around 18,000 words too. So that would be a bit more than half and under better conditions. It could work after all. And next to that would be the rest of the competitions or of course Nano. Well, maybe at least one or the other WB or at least the Pom Berry and "the crying festival of the Heilme" will work out. As I said, the creativity is back, the opponent is time (and a free head).
More? Well, let's see. I have already finally used tags properly for the SC. I want to expand that and then use it to recategorise. In addition, a bit of sprucing up of the articles and the page itself would still not be bad. Let's have a look. Plans are there.
And as far as content is concerned? Oh, my goals from the past readings or resolutions (New Year's resolution and Reading Challenge 2023) are unfortunately still largely outstanding. But at least some of the unfinished prompts from SC 2023 would be nice, such as the Tandera pot. Let's have a look. Especially since I now know that we won't be playing any RP for a while.

Rückblick Summer Camp 2023

Und wieder liegt ein Summer Camp hinter mir. Positiv betrachtet habe ich mein Ziel übererfüllt, was aber natürlich deutlich einfacher ist, wenn man sich nicht wie so oft das Maximalziel setzt. Aber der Reihe nach.

Bei den Umständen ... copper

Tja, was war die Ausgangslage? Seit der letzten Reading Challenge, err der New Year's Resolution hatte ich nicht mehr wirklich geschrieben. Was - wie Leute, die meine generellen Artikel und Einträge verfolgen - eigentlich einen sehr schönen, wenn auch anstrengenden und zeitraubenden Hintergrund hat. Ich vermisse die Leute aus dem Discord, weil es bei genügend Zeit und Energie echt Spaß macht, dort zu sein, aber gerade ist es einfach nicht möglich. Oder nicht sinnvoll möglich, von einem schlichten "Hi" ohne wirklich zu lesen hat ja niemand was.
Zudem war meine Kreativität im Keller. Die Welt war da, ein paar Gedanken auch, aber mehr? Nein, ich bin gerade mehr mit Sachbüchern über die Entwicklung von Kindern und dergleichen beschäftigt. Und dann war noch klar, dass ich am 24. Juli wieder zu arbeiten beginnen würde. So kam es, dass ich mir nur das Ziel für copper setzte. Und ehrlich nur hoffte, dass ich wieder rein kam und das auch schaffen konnte. Klar, nach ein wenig Wunschdenken hätte ich gerne mehr gehabt, aber wirklich als Versprechen abgeben konnte ich das echt nicht.

Hey, Silber

Zu Beginn habe ich dann beobachtet, wie manche einen echten Lauf entwickelt haben. Etwa CrazyEddie, für den es mich echt freut, auch, dass er so viel Rückhalt in der Community findet. Bei mir selbst sah es noch eher mau aus, weil ich mal wieder (das ist häufig ein generelles Problem bei mir ;) ) nicht richtig rein kam, den Kopf nicht ausreichend frei bekam. Am Ende war es dann aber doch Silber. Wow.
Wie kam es? Na ja, ganz ehrlich, das habe ich meinem lieben Ehemann zu verdanken, der wusste, wie viel mir das und meine Kreativität eigentlich bedeutet und versuchte, mir Freiräume zu schaffen, damit ich auch wirklich schreiben kann, mich schlussendlich geradezu zum Beginn drängte. Nachdem es dann lief. Gerade übrigens wieder. So konnte ich mich rein arbeiten und wieder kreativ werden. Und außerdem fand ich die letzte Welle an prompts über Kommunikation echt super. Die haben es geschafft, dass ich nicht nur irgendetwas in meiner Welt schrieb, sondern auch eines meiner Elementarvölker richtig ausarbeitete - was mir dann wichtiger war als noch mehr prompts zu schreiben (denn ja, ich fasste mich mal wieder nicht kurz ;) ). In dem Sinne wirklich vielen, vielen lieben Dank an die Kreativen für diese klasse prompts. In dem Sinne bin ich ziemlich glücklich, auch wenn der Perfektionist in mir natürlich gerne mehr geschafft hätte. Aber vorm Ausblick nun

zur eigentlichen Reading Challenge 2023

Kurze Vorbemerkung (wirklich). Wieder soll man also drei Prompts wählen und dazu kommentieren, lernen. Nun, letztes Mal wählte ich meine Schwächen, aber da man ja eigentlich seine (vermeintlichen) Stärken stärken soll... schaue ich mir dieses Mal an, worüber ich gerne schreibe. Personen, Spezies und... Essen (da hatte ich eigentlich eine coole Idee. Na ja, demnächst hoffentlich).

Wow. Warum? Weil das von Jaime wirklich mal eine vom typischen Standard stark abweichende Herangehensweise ist, während ich doch klassisch eher im Wikipedia-Stil unterwegs bin. Ich finde es super, mal einen solchen Konventionenaufbruch zu sehen (Sicht einer anderen Person und Brief) und überlege mir daher, ob ich nicht auch hin und wieder vom Standard abweichen sollte.

Dieser Artikel hier ist klassischer, aber mir gefällt wirklich, wie der Charakter, um den es geht, den Artikel selbst kommentiert. Ehrlich gesagt liebte ich es. "Söhne von Engeln" war besonders genial. Mal sehen, ob ich etwas Derartiges nicht auch bei mir einbauen kann - zumindest bei Personen, die wissen könnten, das über sie geschrieben wird. Oder anders. Da muss ich noch grübeln.

Noch klassischer, aber mal von ab, dass der Artikel ein gutes Beispiel ist, dass auch eigene Zeichnungen einen Artikel stark aufwerten können (insbesondere wenn man es kann wie nnie oder auch kveld und panthers, um mal ein paar zu nennen) beschränkt er sich schön auf das Wesentliche (und gefällt mir inhaltlich vom Werdegang her sehr gut). Für nicht ganz so wichtige Charaktere sollte ich mir wirklich einen "Fokus" angewöhnen.

Was ich an Eddies Artikeln sehr mag sind die Kommentare, die - etwas unklassisch - eher unten stehen. Ehrlich gesagt wäre ich bei Gerichten nicht auf die Idee gekommen, sie derart zu verwenden, zumal sie noch mehr Informationen bringen, aber da war mein Denken wohl - einmal mehr - eingeschränkt. Wirklich nett. Außerdem finde ich effektvolles Essen witzig.

Das war auch so eine Überraschung. Zum einen wird auf den Hintergrund der Bezeichnung eingegangen (gut, dass hätte ich bei Kveld erwarten können) und dann handelt es sich eher um eine Gerichtsgattung und kein Gericht an sich. Aber mitgenommen habe ich mir vor allem, dass man auch hier Sprachentwicklung unterbringen kann. Sehr cool.

Um nicht die Schokolade zu bemühen... nein, ich finde es toll, wie hier Knoblauch in die Welt gebracht wird im Sinne von einer Übertragung mit einer schönen Abwandlung. Bei mir gibt es auch noch viel aus dieser Welt, was ich in Yenort bräuchte. Aber eben nicht 1 zu 1, sondern angepasst. Das hier ist ein schönes Beispiel dafür.

Abgesehen davon, dass ich die Spezies sehr gelungen finde, finde ich auch das Artikeldesign sehr gut. Wie schön man die klassischen Eckdaten aufhübschen und alles übersichtlich unterteilen kann. Außerdem natürlich, wie sehr auch hier Kommentare helfen. Da könnte ich echt eine Menge lernen.

Ebenfalls eine sehr gelungene Spezies, die einmal mehr auf den Punkt gebracht wird (und einen tollen Namen hat). Aber das eigentlich Interessante für mich sind die unterschiedlichen Theorien. Das sollte ich mir echt besser merken, denn es ist ein netter Kniff.

Eigentlich las ich den Artikel wegen etwas anderem und wurde dann überrascht. Ich erwartete, etwas über die Spezies zu lesen, was ich natürlich auch hier tat. Aber der Fokus des Artikels verlagerte sich auf die Nutznießer der Pflanze. Wenn etwas mehr Mittel zum Zweck ist, sollte ich dem in Artikeln vielleicht auch mehr Platz einräumen. Für World Ember kann ich mir das gut vorstellen...

und damit zu den Zielen fürs nächste halbe Jahr

Haha. Gut, ernsthaft. Im Dezember hat mein Ehemann Elternzeit und Urlaub, also erhoffe ich mir, dass Wold Ember mit seinen 10.000 Wörtern dieses Mal wieder klappt. Ich meine, im Summercamp wurden es auch um die 18.000 Wörter. Das wäre also etwas mehr als die Hälfte und das unter besseren Bedingungen. Könnte doch klappen. Und daneben wären die restlichen Wettbewerbe oder natürlich Nano. Na vielleicht klappt zumindest der ein oder andere WB oder zumindest die Pom-Beere und "das Weinfest der Heilme". Wie gesagt, die Kreativität ist wieder da, der Gegner ist die Zeit (und der freie Kopf).
Mehr? Nun ja, mal sehen. Ich habe zum SC schon endlich Tags richtig eingesetzt. Das will ich ausbauen und damit dann auch neu kategorisieren. Außerdem wäre ein bisschen Aufhübschen der Artikel und der Seite selbst immer noch echt nicht schlecht. Schauen wir mal. Pläne sind da.
Und inhaltlich noch? Ach, meine Ziele der vergangenen Readings oder Resolutions (New Year's resolution and Reading Challenge 2023 - Neujahrsvorsätze und reading challenge 2023) stehen ja leider großteils noch. Aber zumindest die hinzu gekommenen nicht bearbeiteten prompts vom SC 2023 wären teils nett, etwa der Tandera-Topf. Schauen wir mal. Zumal ich nun weiß, dass wir noch länger kein RP spielen werden.
