Saint Simon Blinker
Simon Blinker was a human artificer-cleric. He originated in Realm 79: The Junction, and lived in the city of Rotterdam.
Simon, along with three other mercenaries, were recruited by the ALUMN for an expedition down the Staircase, to recover an tome known as the Book of Zed.
The other members of his party were Petra, Lucien Cabot and Xarus.
Simon was a gifted artificer before being recruited by the Order of the Staircase. He was known to enhance his plate armor with mechanized upgrades.
This was an additional practical joke, as legends state there is no end to the Staircase.
Additionally, this "test" often weeded out potential recruits. Those called to the Order instinctually understand that their "god" should not be approached or examined too closely. Anyone actively interested in travelling to the Staircase's breach into Midland were deemed unfit.
Through a fantastic coincidence, Simon was recruited by the ALUMN for an expedition into the Staircase just as he received his clerical "rite of passage" to find the bottom of the Staircase.
And so he took upon his mission with the assumptoin his path had been laid before him by the equivalent of divine providence.
A Neophyte
Simon was a recent recruit by a new and mysterious clerical organization known as the Order of the Staircase. Knowing it was almost impossible to approach the cordoned island of the Staircase, let alone enter the Staircase itself, new recruits were often hazed by being told they had been tasked with finding the bottom the of the Staircase. by Midjourney

Simon Blinker, along with his party, never returned from the Staircase, and all were presumed dead.

Many chiding and apologetic communications were sent upon discovery of the apparent death of the neophyte Simon Blinker. The tradition of hazing new recruits with the task of finding the bottom of the Staircase ended.

Simon Blinker was memorialized in the curt and business-like manner of the Order of the Staircase, mainly through article blurbs in their marketing communications.

Over time many similar legends began to airse of higher level members of the clerical order meeting the spirit of Simon Blinker while traversing the Eternal Stairs.

It is rumored the he even will appear as the avatar of the Staircase itself when it deigns to intervene in a divine fashion.

Saint Simon Blinker, the only known divine being associated with the Staircase, has been described as ornery, condescending, and generally unhelpful. He generally tells members of the order to avoid traversing the Eternal Stairs whenever possible.
