Resolutions 2025

This WorldEmber, I tried to shoot for 50,000 words, trying to see if I could reach it like I did in the first two years of me being on WA. And even though I didn't reach it, 35 thousand words (almost 37 if counting what I didn't publish) is still great. I even managed to create two storylines, one for this world, following the character of Alexy, a man captured by Harvesters and one for the Age of Gray, an unfinished story of Mia, a School teaching Color Magic, and one of its new professors. That one is still about 3 or 4 articles away from its conclusion.

Reading Challenge

As always, there were many wonderful WE entries this year. Here are the ones I considered the most impressive, amazing, curious, imaginative, or all of the above.
An amazing story that pulled me in so much that I felt like I breezed through it. Great use of descriptions and abstaining from them whenever the imagination would create stronger imagery. It really makes me want to write a story of my own, a full one and not one sprinkled through multiple articles.

Oath of Righteous Dead by Qurilion

Something a little more unusual, a subclass for D&D's paladin that looks like it would be quite cool to play as. Just the idea of an undead holy warrior is
amazing by itself, but here, it offers both different flavors and playstyles, depending on the undead chosen. Reading it made me come up with some ideas on who I'd want to play as.

War of the Liberators by Darkseid Another amazing conflict by Darkseid, this one features two equally interesting sides and their leaders. The article reads like a good mixture of a story and a documentary, anchoring the events with dates (something I always tend to skip in my writing), but never becoming dry. I feel like presenting it more as a conflict between two leaders really helped with that.
And, as always, Dark's formatting is top-notch.

Wake up! by Catoblepon

A new project by Cato, this article looks like a prelude to a great interactive story. Inspired by games and treating the readers as players, it has a great potential to become something amazing.

Lichdom by Jontaro

It is fun to see how the concept of liches is written into Jontaro's world, the types of liches, and the views of different races on them. All of that is adorned with amazing art, as always, when it comes to Jontaro's creations.

Three Laughing Mice by Demongrey

A wonderful article by Demongrey, three fairytales showing the different ways laughter can be used. Laughing to cheer yourself up, laughing as mockery, laughing in the face of death. They are short and straight to the point but that is what would make them perfect fairytales.

Clutchguard by Shaaman

Just the idea of spiders creating societies with their own roles is amazing by itself. But then you add that the spiders are smart enough to practice a bioengineering by selective breeding to achieve the traits desired by them and that elevates the whole idea onto completely different level.

Boo: Your guide to the afterlife by Make lore, not war

Fun and adorable article about a cute little grim reaper. With tons of tooltips with Boo's interjections into what the narration says about him, the whole text drips with personality.

Tiyla the Blessed by Dhelian

A fascinating article by Dhelian, it is chock-full of details. As it is usual for Dhel, its formatting is amazing, with quotes sprinkled here and there, and a great use of images that seem to perfectly fit the size of the text around them. And let's not forget the content, Tiyla's story is a great read.

Shir'kardyr - The dance of bones by Tyrdal

An interesting read, what one could consider a simple idea for a gnoll ritual based on a hyena's affinity with bones, here it is made way cooler due to gnolls carving stories into said bones, making them an unusual medium to pass on knowledge. And then it is elevated even more when the arrival of a bearer of said bones is a cause of celebration, really fleshing out the hyena-folk of this world.

Resolutions

Even though I barely completed one, maybe two resolutions from the last year, here are some new ones (and some returning to be beaten), and let's hope I'll manage to complete at least a few of them.

Simple and short ones

  • Take part in more challenges, both official and unofficial ones
  • Finish the bestiary I didn't the last year (Call of the Tree)
  • Finish the story of the School of Colors (Age of Gray)
  • Create art suiting the style of the world for past articles (When Darkness Craves)
  • Create a storyline for the articles related to the world of Curtain, especially something related to one of the three main narrators (When the Curtain has Fallen)

Complex or hard ones

  • Write a story happening in one of the worlds
  • Create a map for one of the worlds
  • Update and play around with css
  • There might be a new world on the horizon
