Arnor Organization in Westeros | World Anvil

Arnor

The largest, oldest and in the eyes of some, the mightiest of all the kingdoms of Westeros and the last surviving kingdom where Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Giants, Dryads and men of the blood of Numenor still rule and live freely.

Founded from the three kingdoms of Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur in the wake of the dawn that came after the long night when the hero leader Brandon Stark, known in the elvish tongue as Aranarth Telcontar, lead the forces of the great alliance against the White Walkers and their armies of Orcs to victory.

Arnor became a mighty realm of unity and majesty among the people of Westeros in the days of the third age, but at the turn of the fourth age when the Andals came to the lands of Westeros and laid waste to the kingdoms of the free people of westeros, Arnor was the only kingdom to hold out against the expansion of the Andals, fending off the invading race of men.

In all the years since, after countless attempts by the Andals to conquer Arnor and later the Targaryens, Arnor has remained strong and resistant, the last great kingdom of the old age where the free people remain strong and the blood of the first men and Númenóreans has intertwined into a single northern race of men known as the Dúnedain.

Territories

The Kingdom of Arnor consists of all the lands north of the neck at the Tamerian border to the lands of always winter as well as the isles of Skellig on the western coast and the island of Skagos off the western coast.

Military

In theory if the King of Arnor were to call on every able bodied and trained man, elf, dwarf, halfing and giant to fight from every corner of the north, then the result would be an army of close to six hundred and fifty thousand soldiers, but a force of such magnitude has not been called since Torhen Stark called an army of five hundred thousand to the south to challenge Aegon the Conquerer at the beginning of the fifth Age.

Generally, a full military host from the north will generally call on one hundred thousand fighting men to form an army.

Religion

Almost the entirety of the Kingdom of Arnor follow the faith of the Valar, the gods of Arda where the people of Arnor originated from before the Conjunction of Spheres. The Valar were the fourteen Ainur who entered Arda after its creation, to give order to the world after being molded of the thought of Eru Ilúvatar, chiefest and supreme deity of the their faith.

Eru created for them lesser heavenly beings named the 'Maiar', who were their servants. Though subordinate to the Valar, the Maiar were powerful nonetheless and carried out the will of their masters the Valar.

Eru Ilúvatar than created the first two earthly races of Arda, the elves and the humans. Eru set all the firstborn of Elves and Men in places of the world that even the Valar could not find. Elves were the first of the Children of Ilúvatar to appear in Middle-earth, whereas Men were not to follow until the beginning of the First Age, with the creation of the Sun and Moon, many thousands of years later. Dwarves were not included in this distinction, as they were creations of one of the Valar, Aulë, alone what he imagined the image of the children of Eru to be but all knowing Eru Ilúvatar tested Aulë and granted life to the dwarves, though not part of the children of Ilúvatar.

After the conjunction of spheres, the races of Arda clung to their faith in their gods of old and continued to worship the Valar in the new world, sharing their faith with the Dryads, the children of the forest who believed in unnamed gods who could hear their prayers through their sacred wirewood trees. Over time, the faiths amalgamated with the Valar becoming the identites of the nameless gods of the wirewood trees which became their shrines of worship.

Manwë Súlimo the King of the Winds, and the King of the Valar, and husband of Varda.
