Kaer Invaerne Building / Landmark in Westeros | World Anvil

Kaer Invaerne

Built by Brandon Builder, the first king of Arnor, who used the aid of the giants and dwarves who pledged fealty to him to constructed the fortresses in the northern mountains where the Order of Rangers could live and train as well as a mighty mountain side fortress palace of Kaer Invaerne, translated from the first men's tounge to the common tongue as Winterfell Keep, where he and all his decendants would live.

The mighty Keep was designed as an impenitrable fortress with only one stone bridge to access it across a great gorge between the two mountains with the only other acesses being the several secret passages deep within the mountain to act as entrances and escapes in the event of a siege. Deep within the great stone halls of the castle are deep cavernous caves designed to be a refuge for the smallfolk of Arnor to be evacuated into if the lands of Arnor were ever threatened. The fortress is great and plentiful with room for all inside the castle to live and high in one of the courtyards along the mountain slopes above the castle is the ancient godswood where the wirewood tree sits, twin to the White Tree of Minas Tirith of the lost kingdom of Gondor.

In the lower caverns of the fortress is the great krpyt of the starks where all the past Starks have been layed to rest for centuries.
