Awoken Ethnicity in Wasteland Of Ohm | World Anvil

Awoken

The Awoken, is the shared title of those of us born on Minerva. We are made up of an almost even quantity of the three races.
  • The Averine: The race I belong to, we are bird-like in our body structure, and the smallest of the Awoken, but the most agile.
  • The Urrock : Bear-like in nature, and the largest of the Awoken. Toughest as well.
  • The Angtor: An Eel-like race that straddles between the sizes of the other Awoken, and the most powerful withElectrokinesis.
Though our biology varies wildly from species to species, we share several similar characteristics.
  • We are all bipedal though some of us can run on all four limbs, especially those of us with longer arms.
  • We share a very similar body plan, with four limbs (two arms, two legs), and all having fully functional hands and opposable thumbs. (Outside of a few very rare mutations, a tail is not a limb)
  • We give live birth.
  • We feel a kinship with the other Awoken and are able to live peacefully together.
  • The first generation emerged from the Silverbark. (At least from what I've been told...)
  • The First Generation can recall a time they call "The Lost Dream" that occurred before they emerged from the Silverbark.
  • Each race has a handful of rare mutations that occur. These mutations are normally beneficial but can be harmful in some cases.
Other then those similarities, we are generally split into different ethnicities that shows our shared culture and heritage. I personally know of four, all related to the larger factions on Plenumia. One should be careful as ethnicity doesn't mean loyalty to that faction they are connected to, it just means that they are related by birth to that particular faction.
  • Wild Heart: A catchall term for those who remain unaffiliated with the culture or genetic heritage of the three major factions on Plenumia.
  • Mountain Strider: Those who are descended from a mix of Wild Heart, and Sand Walker bloodlines, and fallow the culture of the Copper Mount Militia. My personal heritage.
  • Plains Tender: Our southern brothers and sisters who are apart of Fields Union.
  • Sand Walker: The people who were born in and fallow the oppressive traditions of We of the Sand.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Though culture varies greatly between the different ethnicities, we do share some common practices.
  • Generally, if a group is lacking one of the races, they will seek them out. Normally with the mindset that it varies their skill set
  • Unless there is war involved, most awoken are non-hostile to one another even if they are from a different culture. Our numbers are few, and we all acknowledge that we have to work together or die to the many dangerous creatures on Minerva.
  • Some say that we have five limbs, counting our tail, these people are wrong.
  • One should never harm a silverbark tree, as it leads to death. A phenomena that I speak of further in that article.
