Tallari-Anaviri-Irallat, god of secrets and a sort of distant, capricious mentor-diety on the plane of Waking Materia.

Sphinxes are a rare and powerful interdimensional species with feline bodies, avian wings and humanoid heads. They can be exceedingly large, even kaiju-sized, are exceptionally intelligent to the point of being mildly precognitive and are superb mages.

Though their ways are utterly inscrutable, they appear to be in a massive, Universe-spanning and highly deadly game of Chess with the equally godlike True Dragons. It is possible the two species are both Extites: beings from outside The Known Universe entirely, possibly of a mysterious substance or force known as Kos. This warring seems to be the sole reason for sphinxes to make contact with lesser, plane-based beings; they otherwise tend not to show themselves. Sphinxes may rarely stay and help a plane recover from the devastation of a True Dragon attack, even sometimes taking on a sort of capricious mentor role.

Notable Sphinxes

Tallari-Anaviri-Irallat, the "Duskscape Regent" of secrets and knowledge, is widely thought by Material scholars to be sphinx in origin. They have maintained a distantly watchful presence on Materia after their defeat of a True Dragon and outer god of destruction named God-Killer Otrinax.
