Auklan Sea)
The Auklan ethnicity is an ethnic group of
Humans that come from the
Lowland Collar, and today live around
Estaria and
Prekha. It's the most populous ethnic group in Vildrel, with an estimated 100 million Auklan living on the continent.
The Auklan name is given to both an ethnic group of humans and a cultural group of humans and
Droven. Most humans in the cultural group are part of the Auklan ethnic group as well, but the usage isn't one-to-one, and humans that are not ethnically Auklan may be colloquially referred to as Auklan if they are part of the cultural group.
Appearance
Auklan are slightly taller than other humans, averaging 1.85 meters or six feet for males, a full four inches taller than other human averages. This height difference is often theorised to be evidence of
giant interbreeding.
As with all human populations in vildrel, their ancestry extends far further than the
current age, and their skin pigmentation varries wildly. They tend to have short noses and soft, slightly curled hair, but most modern Auklan cut their hair too short for this to be noticable.
Culture
There is a massive split in Auklan culture between their eastern and western populations. This split came about from the nearly millenia long time that western Auklans lived in the heart of
Sura Pel.
Dress
The majority living in the east have cultural practices rooted in
Atovism, even the
Eclectic Materialist southern Prekhans engage in Atovist-rooted forms of dress: tight fitting pants and shirts cut high enough to cover the groin just above the knees.
The western Auklan's retain cultural practices from
Schulanism. Though very few actually practice it, or are even aware of its influence, the lasting impact is unmistakable in their dress. Male formal-wear in western Auklan societies has tailed coats and tassled shoulders, with females wearing a garment combining skirts, pants and stockings in one stitched fabric called a
Gersha.
Religion
Atovism and
Schulanism both originated from Auklan humans in the early days of the
Age of Work, though the latter is rarely practiced. There are also regional forms of
Eclectic Materialism, such as Lowland Paganism, which is common in
Prekha.
