Wristassist

"The Wristassist is one of the most useful developments when it comes to recording, storing and sharing data. The introduction of the original Wristassist in 2134 PT fundementally changed the way in which members of The Alliance were able to communicate and made the entire organisation at least 12% more efficient than before.   It has since been developed and built upon, and is provided as standard to every new Alliance employee, no matter which organisation they are a part of. It is true that those within The Academy and the Media Outlets may not get the latest model, but the technology still offers a substantial advantage."

Utility

The wristassist wraps around a wearer's wrist and, depending on the set permissions, it allows a wearer to:
  1. Access Databases and Servers
  2. Which databases depends on the levels of permissions, but this allows the wearer to extract information, maps, images and anything else stored on the relevant servers. Even access to the open servers, which comes as standard, allows a wearer to pull down intergalactically-available information.
  3. Add to Databases and Servers
  4. Again, which databases and servers depends on the level of permission, but all interactions with the wristassist are stored in an Alliance database, along with metadata like date, time, geo and user information.   Speaking into the wristassist allows a wearer to record information or update a database entry. The writstassist is also able to take images and, with the right permissions, record three-dimensional schematics within a 20ft radius of the tool.
  5. Record and Store Information Locally
  6. Local storage is also available on the wristassist, so that if a user wants to make personal notes or record images or schematics for personal reference they are able to, without sharing them with everyone who has access to that server.   That being said, this local storage is pulled every 1 minute along with the same metadata as the shared server (user, time, date and geo) and added to a running database which is accessible to those working within the Alliance. Only those with very specific permissions are able to access this data, but it is scraped for "triggers" regularly. Those with the highest level clearance are able to side-step this level of scrutiny. However, only those with something to hide would want to.
  7. Physically Enter Specific Locations
  8. The wristassist includes an electro-magnetic key which can be programmed to automatically open doors and access certain areas. It can also be used interact with specific devices which are preprogrammed to do so, but that is an advanced feature.
  9. Send and Receive Communications
  10. It is possible for a wearer to send communications (audio, visual or textual) to other people, if their ID code is known. When the wristassist is connected to a wearer's ID code (upon set up), they will also receive any communications sent to their ID code.
The device has a camera, a projector, a speaker, a microphone and an interactive screen. The newest versions allow for a projection of the interface, to overcome the size of the screen.

Versions

The original version of the wristassist, which was created over 2,000 years ago, was far less advanced.   It was larger, more cumbersome and wasn't able to record images or schematics. It was much more text and audio based, in no small part because the screen and projection technology didn't exist to allow it on such a small device, with so much else happening in it as well.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing of the device is done mainly on P'Ache Alter, and the details remain a highly guarded secret to prevent potential dissidents from being able to hack the technology.   The device uses Larite for power, which means that the wearer can wear it all day without needing to charge. It charges automatically as long as they spend at least an hour in sunlight every 8 - 10 days.
"I do not know where I would be without my wristassist. Honestly, I don't know how people survive without one.   I look at all these basic people living on planets like Celebrate and Laurels and I understand they can't afford them, but surely they could afford to miss a few meals to benefit from a wristassist?"

With the peaceKeeper alliance being so reliant on them, i can see the wristsassist becoming a big problem of the alliance if another group manages to hack them and/or stop their production. Great article!

You're right, it's definitely a point of weakness for them, which is why they restrict who gets access to them. In a place as great as The Alliance, surely that's enough... XD Thank you!
