Aciaroma

Before the Tunnel War, Aciaroma was a province of the Detrinian Empire called Sweetwood. It held the Empire's largest cities, including the capital, its most fertile farmland, and its greatest tunnels. The untamed parts of Sweetwood were the southern rainforests and lush savannahs.

After the Detrinian Empire lost the Tunnel War, the combined military forces of Royal Hexagon had slain the ruling necrite tyrant as well as their trusted allies and driven away all Detrinians with any authority, with the sole exception of the clergy.

The province was turned into its own queendom, renamed Aciaroma, and given the Empire's old place in the Royal Hexagon. The bumble general leading Hexagon's forces, Brighid, was crowned the queen of the new nation.

Most people living in Aciaroma are former Detrinians or their descendants. However, they hold no power in the nation. All official positions in the government are held by members of the Hexagon military. Soldiers patrol streets and the countryside, crushing any sign of rebellion. Such a massive military requires tons of food and other resources to maintain. Most of these resources are obtained by taxing the civilians into poverty. The oppressive treatment of civilians has kept the usually selfish and infighting necrites united.

The only area where former Detrinians have any power is the clergy, but even this is heavily limited: each church of the main necrite god, Katisan, is closely monitored by a member of Royal Hexagon's clergy, and all services are required to be held in Insect-Common. Each church of Katisan is kept purposefully underfunded to prevent them from giving too much to the people. Royal Hexagon's clergy is encouraging people to worship another god with varying levels of subtlety.

For the former Detrinians, open rebellion is impossible - Hexagon's army is too numerous and well-equipped to defeat. Instead, they focus on indirect rebellion: some compose new songs or paint beautiful graffiti with the colorful oils from the local trees, others maintain secret churches of Katisan where services are held in Necritian, and many smuggle excess food to their families in the Detrinian Empire. A few make calculated guerilla strikes, hoping to sow discord.

All is not well in the ruling military, either. Queen Brighid is, first and foremost, a general: she is used to leading armies, not ruling a nation. She has been unable to turn Aciaroma from an occupied territory into a true nation. She also thinks from the point of view of her birthnation, Auroma, and often sends valuable items taxed from the populace back there. Decisions like this are obviously unpopular amidst the former Detrinians, and they’ve left even her allies in Rusterov and Cavana more than a little grated. They feel that they should have more power - or even just more rewards - since they also fought in the war.

Aciaroma has very little internal and external trade. While members of a village will help each other, the military typically prevents trade with other villages. The military doesn't trade either - they tax the population, consume what they must and send the rest to their home nation, typically Auroma. External trade is also limited: most of the goods are either plunder sent back or additional resources sent to help the military keep the peace. The black market is also limited, since most people smuggle their extra to help the Detrinian Empire. In addition, Theocracy of the Wurm is offering aid to the rebels, but few dare to accept it.
