The Bowels
The Bowels is the name for the collection of dark, winding metal halls and rooms that dwell benath the city. These halls are poorly mapped out and rarely explore.
Strange Metal Halls
The halls of The Bowels seem to lack a certain amount of Logic, on many a previous expedition into them, strange things have been found. Rooms have been found without entrance or exit, completely sealed, but with working lights, gas & plumbing. Large decrepit machines that refuse to turn on, have been fused into the walls as a single piece of metal or that serve no apparent purpose. Areas that make no architectural, spacial or mathematical sense. Many strange abnormalities can be found in The Bowels and has lead to a general avoidance of the area, resulting in a lack of maps.
Whilst several important areas and functions can be found within The Bowels (such as the Lead District, the Guts Forges and several important locomotion devices) few venture beyond them due to it's strange nature. Much of the area is strangely intact, considering how it has been abandoned for 300 years.
The RIBS Metro Program
In 1858, Queen Mary Anne Authorised the use of Wholstad's "Guts" to be partially scouted, excavated and then renovated into a Network of Undercity Metros, connecting the entire city. After her Untimely Demise in 1862 (considered unlucky for the Project) it fell into the hands of her son, the now King Edwards. The Project secretly faced continuos (and not entirely unexpected) issues. Scouts would go missing, Plans would be handed in Blank, Architects would go mad in the night and write nonsensical impossible plans upon undiscovered materials, Work Crews would need constant replenishment of personnel, Excavation Crews would be found dead, mad or not all, and Crews would report various magical anomalies, ranging in lethality. These Issues (and More) would cause the abrupt ceasation of development in 1890, although The Public at large would not be informed of this for Eleven years, until 1901. Despite the end of Development, several dozen stations were successfully built and a small handfull of lines connect them. They are still however, no-where near the original plans of the project.
