Krag Dump

Originally a Small Wharf called the Brusher's Wharf, this district became a biological hazard after a major chemical spill. Wholstad's government has been intending to clean the district and restore it to working order for several years now but, due to the extremely hazardous nature of Krag, the difficulties in safely cleaning it up & more troubling issues (such as breakdowns and riots), the repeated attempts at cleaning the wharf has had little success.

This district has been deemed a health hazard, a "buffer zone" of 1 Kilometre has been placed around the district and the entrance gate to the city from outside it's walls has been sealed. No security is present as all know the risk the district poses due to the many information campaigns.

The Spiteful have been sabotaging clean up efforts for the district, by doing things such as damaging equipment, killing cleaners and more.

Krag & Sugar Gas

Krag, is a by-product created by the production of Sugar Gas, a Magi-Chemical Weapons used by Stitches during the Great Continental War. Sugar Gas was admitted by Stitches to be a Horrific Mistake, it was an airborne gas weapon created with the use of "Jeckettrow Crystals". Mined by Dwarves, these Pink Crystals are typically harmless however, after an enrichment process, the powdering of the Crystals and a series of chemical reactions, Sugar Gas is made. Sugar Gas was named for it's light pink colour and the reportedly sweet tasting crystalline structures created by the Gas' presence.

When Inhaled, Sugar Gas will begin a horrible process that is divided into 3 stages, characterised by the symptoms and closeness to death. The Gas damages the lungs by slowly transforming portions of them into Quartz. The First Stage is called "Tainted Airways", Considered Treatable, this stage consists of an itching sensation in the chest, a sickly sweet tasting mouth and light coughs. The Second Stage is called "Terminal Fits", by now it's terminal; this stage consists of Heavy Coughing Fits; where the Tainted begins to cough up small Quartz Crystals partially covered in blood from the trauma of thier exit, Fevers; caused by the body attempting to fight back against the infections caused by the wounds, and lastly Difficulty Breathing; caused by the lack of lung tissue. The Final Stage is "Crystallisation" where the lungs are completely subsumed by the Gas and portions of the body begin to befall the same fate. Notably, skin contact with the Gas only causes mild irritation and itching which ends approximately 10 minutes after initial exposure. From Exposure to Death, the time betwixt is typically 8-14 days.

Krag, is created as a by-product of the chemical reactions to create Sugar Gas. Whilest it was also considered as a potential weapon in The Great Continental War, due to it's volatile nature, the difficulty in containment and the resources needed to clean the substance from a contaminated enviroment, this line of thought was denied. It was decieded instead that it would be labelled a waste product and stored in Reinforced, Rune Powered 100 Litre Drums that would then be temporarilly stored in warehouses before the end of the war, where (at the war's conclusion) they would then be removed and the substance would be destroyed in a remote location.

This Dark Purple & Violet Liquid is extremely hazardous in nature due to it's Acidic, Necrotic and Eratic nature. When in-organic matter is exposed to Krag, it begins to "Decay" or Melt away, the only method known to prevent this is use of several runes that are designed to slow the process by thousands. When Organic matter is exposed to Krag, the area of contact becomes numb, before it begins to bruise. Depending on the length of contact with Krag, Organic Matter (if only brief contact is made) will begin to become damaged in a manner similar to 2nd degree burn wounds. Extensive contact for a long duration will cause debilitating injuries, ailment & even death, if not treated. Symptoms of Extensive, lengthy contact include: Skin will begin to crack and peel in the afflicted area causing massive blood loss, Veins and Arteries will begin to glow Purple/Violet as the Substance enters the blood stream, ███████ ███████ ██ ████ ████████ ██ ██████████ ██ ██████ ███████ ████ ██████ █████ ████ ██ ████ ████████ ███ ███████ ██ ████████ ██████ ███ ████ █████ ███████ ███, eye colour shifting to the colour of Krag and finally, Death.

Krag is also, rarely, known to possess Mutagenic properties. The rarity of the Mutations makes it unfeasable for any Mad Science experiments however. These Mutations are Theorised to be caused by slight exposure to the substance and inhalation of fumes. Although, luck is very much still a factor and no true experimentation has been acomplished.

Government

Wholstad's government has repeatedly attempted to clean the afflicted area's. They have largely been unsuccessful due to the hazards posed by exposure to Krag, several in the clean up efforts have lost more than just limbs or organs. In an effort to keep people from being exposed, they have imposed a 1km buffer zone around the district and regularly release pamphlets and posters about the danger of Krag.

Industry & Trade

Before the Disaster, this district had one of the city's 4 entrance gates. It was used by many as a place of trade and storage. Many warehouses still sit here, full of their goods, forever waiting to be moved.

Many buildings in this district were dedicated to construction and material transport/storage.

Infrastructure

The Infrastructure of this district (such as Gas, Water, Power, Sewage Systems, etcetera) has been almost entirely destroyed by Krag, that which remains has also been disconnected from the systems by Authorities.

Streets have faces a severe level of Decay due to the presence of Krag, making many holes.

Somehow, several of the Cranes in the district are not only intact but also, theoretically functional.

Most Plant life in the district has either been heavily decayed and killed by Krag or, mutated by it.

History

The Brusher's Wharf was a part of the Workers District, one of Wholstad's Entry gates was contained in this neighbourhood and it acted as a miniature market for those of this city. This miniature market often acted as a bazaar for those outside of the city, who did not want to travel to either of it's markets to hawk thier goods.

In 1967, a warehouse in the area exploded. This long forgotten warehouse contained approximately 5000 drums of Krag that had not been disposed of after The Great Continental War. The explosion was seemingly caused by a buildup of gas in the Krag Containers (compromising thier integritty and making them potentially explosive) and of explosive gas in the building's cellar. This explosive gas in the warehouse's cellar then detonated by an unknown means, the resulting explosion launched the drums high into the air where then, due to their high presure & the now compromised integritty, they exploded, spraying Krag all over the district.

The resulting panic and evacuation is remembered as one of the city's worst Night's. In the weeks that followed, Survey and Search teams were sent in to assess the damages and try to find anyone left behind, not all of them returned. The total death toll is unknown due to the various non-citizens that were in the district at the time however, the estimated death toll is somewhere around 1600 for the initial night and 579-701 for the following weeks. Clean up efforts have been continuosly attemped and regularly failed due to one reason or anouther, no solution has yet been found.

The Spiteful's Den.

Built as the main base of The Spiteful, this underground bunker functions as their main holding. Built in a portion of the district's Bowels that was thought to be destroyed by Krag, this sprawling underground complex is not only hidden but also well developed.

Architecture

Many of the buildings have been partially decayed and/or dissolved by Krag. The foundations of many buildings have been slowly broken down, causing many homes to slowly collapse inwards on themselves or list to one side, threatening to fall over.

Originally, the buildings of this district were built the same style as the more wealthy neighbourhoods of The Workers District.

Geography

Much of the Krag Dump has been Decayed and Disolved away by the substance. This decay has led to various "hills" and "craters" where krag has dissolved away the layers of the district, leading to a strange pseudo-hilly enviroment. Portions of The Bowels has also been exposed to open air due to this decay.

Climate

The air is the district is frequently described as "Sharp & Painful", this is due to it's lightly caustic properties. A Breathing Apparatus is recommended.

Due to the sustained presence of Krag, the district is frequently very humid and suffocating.
