The Glimmering Sea

Mount Firethorn has many illustrious gem-studded caverns and caves to explore, with a mysterious underworld unknown to the people of Valheim. Shadows dance and light reflects and glimmers in these sparkling caves covered wall to wall in shining gemstones. Though removing these gems comes with many risks. Breaking just one gem may compromise the structural integrity of the cavern, and many vile creatures keep watch over the gemstones for reasons unknown.

Geography

The walls of most of the caverns are covered with sparkling gemstones, though removing these gems comes with many risks. Breaking just one gem may compromise the structural integrity of the cavern, and many vile creatures keep watch over the gemstones for reasons unknown. Plus most of the gems happen to be multicolored quartz and other worthless gems, but you can find the occasional ruby, sapphire, topaz, diamond, etc. But the most sought after gem on Valheim is the sparkling Convite. Convite is a special gem with a multitude of magical properties that will be listed later. A unique feature of the Glimmering Sea is that if one light source is produced, the reflection of the light off of the crystals will completely illuminate the room your in, along with the rooms adjacent to the one that you're in.

Fauna & Flora

  • Midnight Crawler: Midnight crawlers, the stalkers of the darkness, are large millipede-like creatures that use the hundreds of feelers on their face to create glowing lights which draw in prey, as they launce their body on top of them devouring them with the ling monstrous mouth located on its underbelly. Midnight crawlers avoid light.
  • Black Pudding: Black Pudding is a deep black ooze that dissolves creatures as it consumes them. They lay low waiting for an unsuspecting creature or adventurer to step onto its viscous body. Black puddings avoid light.
  • Piercers: A Piercer is a creature that clings to the ceiling of caves to resemble a stalagmite and then drop down when its prey is in place. (Even though there are Piercers there are no Ropers, I'm not THAT evil)
  • Rust Monsters: Rust monsters roam the deep crystalline caverns of the Glimmering Sea searching for precious metals or dead adventure's gear to consume. They are normally docile but will prod adventures for their metal gear which they will turn to rust and consume.
  • Stirge: the blood-sucking annoyance, Stirges enjoy patrolling the deep caverns of the Glimmering sea searching for unsuspecting adventures to feast upon.
  • Cave Fishers: Cave fishers are horse-sized scorpion-like creatures, that trap their prey in their filament and then reel them into their gaping maw. They sometimes work together with other Cave Fishers to cover a large area with their filaments.
  • Crystal Scarab: Crytal Scarab are large Scarab battles that have crystals on their back that emit a soft 5 ft antimagic glow. These creatures are very attracted to light.
  • Cryolotl: Cryolotl are small Axlotl's that grow dim-glowing crystals on their back. They are playful in nature, and use the dim glow to attract their favorite snack; Crystal Scarabs.
  • Clacker: Clacker are large horseshoe crab-like creatures that have huge crystals growing out of their back which they use to impale their prey. They are not very fast so they disguise themselves as a crystal mound and wait for their prey to come to them. These creatures are afraid of the light.
  • Nightmare Queen: The Nightmare queen is a variant of the Midnight Crawler, much larger and vicious. With a small army of Midnight Crawlers at her back, only the most daring adventures even attempt at claiming her life.

Natural Resources

  • Rocks & Minerals: almost all kinds of minerals, gemstones, precious metals, and fossil fuels can be found by digging into the mountain, but most steer clear but those brave enough to try often hire bodyguards to protect them from wild animal attacks.
  • Viverite: Viverite is a highly magical gemstone sought after by the Valheim government for unknown purposes. It is known to emit an eerie glow when struck by light which normally unsettles tourists unfamiliar with the gemstone.

Tourism

Just like Mount Firethorn itself, the caverns of the Glimmering Sea are not to be explored by the faint of heart. Most tourists ask to see the precious gemstones collected by the miners instead of entering the dangerous caverns themselves.
