Valheim

In the Middle of the Sea is an island dubbed "Valheim". It takes the form of one large landmass split in half by a calm river which creates another island in between the two halves. Valheim has a very strange ecosystem with so many unique creatures native only to Valheim thrive in for no particular reason. The strange shape of the landmasses and the odd creatures brings in many tourists, which are the lifeblood of Valheim's economy. Some tourists believe the gods tested mortal beings on Valheim and then left their experiments there to rot. Others believe that a powerful magical creature lives under Valheim which emanates so much energy it allows creatures to thrive where they normally could not. Many theories have been questioned by the many scholars who traveled to Valheim to solve this mystery but whenever they think their close, a piece of contradictory evidence is uncovered and they have to start over. It's almost as If something or someone doesn't want them to know.   (Valheim is a fantasy D&D campaign setting built to be adaptable to any world so you can change anything you want. Also beware that I have no sense of size, scale, population, and time so you will find that a lot of information like dates, population size, and scale will not be present).
