Clacker
Clackers, the horror of The Glimmering Sea. They resemble giant horseshoe crabs but with giant crystal spikes growing out of their shell which they use to impale their prey, then they throw them to the floor and use their large pincers to bludgeon them to death if they weren't already dead.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Clackers have large dark blue horseshoe crab shells and 2 beady glowing eyes that stick out the front. Unlike a horseshoe crab, a Clacker is about the size of a horse and has 2 large pincers in the front which they drag around as they move. They are quite slow so they usually use the sharp crystals protruding from their back to hold very still and camouflage as a crystal mound until their prey walks by.
Genetics and Reproduction
When 2 Clackers meet they always take that chance to reproduce because their species are so uncommon. If 2 males happen upon a female they will fight to the death to determine who gets to mate. The female will lay 2-4 eggs in a dark area which after about 3 months will hatch into baby Clackers.
Growth Rate & Stages
Baby Clackers don't need supervision by their parents and will simply look after each other because it is genetically impossible for any female Clacker to lay any less than 2 eggs. Normally the more children in a group, the higher their chance of survival.
Ecology and Habitats
Being stealth predators, Clacker are completely helpless food wise when brought out of The Glimmering Sea.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Clacker will eat any living thing that they can impale on their crystals.
Additional Information
Domestication
If found at a young age (or better yet as an egg) young Clackers can be trained and domesticated to become mindless pets simply wandering around and eating food when given.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Clackers have darkvision and hate the light and will stay hidden when a light is brought into the room that they are in.
