Crystal Scarab

A Crystal Scarab is a Scarab beetle with a natural crystal formation growing on its back that emits a soft magical glow.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Crystal Scarab has natural multicolored crystals growing on its shell, that emit a soft magical glow that matches the color of the crystals on its back. The magical glow has the special effect of disabling all magic within 5 feet of the beetle which makes them highly feared by the mages of Valheim. These creatures are attracted to light, and there will be about a hundred of them in one cavern within a minute if a bright light source is produced, and it will take them about an hour to disperse if the light is extinguished.

Genetics and Reproduction

Crystal Scarab reproduces sexually almost every 3 days and lay small eggs that will hatch over the course of a couple of days.

Growth Rate & Stages

Unlike other beetles, Crystal Scarab come out of the egg in their full beetle form instead of taking the form of larvae. The downside is when they emerge from their egg they will have no crystals of magical glow, but they will grow crystals as they age therefore strengthening their antimagic properties.

Ecology and Habitats

Crystal scarabs can only survive in dank dark caves, where the temperature is always cool because they will slowly cook and melt when in the hot sun for too long.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Crystal scarabs feed on moss, mold, and algae that grow in the dark wet caverns of the Glimmering Sea].

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Crystal scarabs can be captured in jars and used as a magical repellent for any spells or enchanted items that enter the antimagic glow. Though keep in mind that you will have to feed and care for the beetles because the antimagic of their shells fade in about 5-8 days after death.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Crystal Scarabs don't have darkvision but emit a very dim light that barely allows them to see. They spend their lives bumbling around looking for food which they can almost never find because of their sight.
