Scope

The motivation behind building Valayo

This world is meant to dive deeper into the surroundings, history, and people that occupy Valayo, and more specifically, Imbria and to explore the consequences of a world wherein magic reigns supreme.   This is intended to serve as an accompaniment to my upcoming novel, Mage Rising, and to allow readers to explore a rich world beyond what is presented in the main story.

Valayo's Unique Selling point

Magic is within you and all around you. It is in the soil beneath your feet, the plants, and the waters. It can be found in the movement of the stars, and even the stirrings of the wind. Some can access it, but few can wield higher levels of power.
Valayo is a world where magic determines political, social, and economic power, but it is not practiced uniformly, nor does it hold the same power in all corners of the world.   The countries and cultures of Valayo have widely different approaches and beliefs surrounding magic, from the magic-free Paltetia to the necromancers of Necros.

Reader Tone

Valayo is a darker world but is not completely without hope or progress. The characters will struggle, and perhaps not all will survive or succeed.   Some areas are more idyllic than others, but as in the real world, no place is completely without its share of problems.   Overall, the world is probably graydim, and at parts slips into bleakdim territory.   *About these terms:
Graydim and bleakdim come from the Tone and Setting Alignment chart created by Jakob Bolt to better describe the middle ground between grimdark and noblebright settings.

Life sucks and the powers that would be are often bickering too much to make it better. While small sparks of faith preside in the people, they'll be fighting an uphill battle against organized relgions, governments, and even the elements to improve things.
