Sea of the Unending Storm
A sea at the north-east of Dalthion which has a permanent storm raging at it's center.
Localized Phenomena
The storm that rages at the center of this sea hasn't stopped for centuries. Covering an area with a radius of about twenty miles it consists of gusting winds, waterspouts, violent waves, and flashes of lighting. A constant curtain of heavy rain and hail falls from the tall dark clouds the cover the area. Outside of the area, the winds continue to whip up large waves but the other conditions generally stop at the edge of the clouds, unless a more natural storm is present in the area.
Natural Resources
Despite the storm there is an abundance of life in the sea. Several varieties of edible fish thrive in the areas a few miles outside the storm, providing plentiful food for the coastal communities. The wind and waves driven by the storm also cause large quantities of seaweed to be washed ashore. Some varieties are edible while others are better suited to being used as fertiliser.
Cerada Eels can be found near to the edges of the storm, though generally only at night. These giant eels are valued as both for their flesh and the oil which can be extracted.
History
The elves of Serin Forest claim that the large basin that the sea fills was created by spells used by Oscar Hilsburg's forces used against them durin the War of Ascension. They further claim that the storm was also created as a result of these spells. Evidence discovered by scholars from Deiran Bay disproves at least the first of these claims, as maps have been unearthed that show the presence of the sea prior to the conflict between the colleges of Necromancy and Abjuration. Thus far it has not been possible to locate any evidence that the storm existed prior to that war, and it is theoretically possible that a great concentration of magic could have triggered the effect. However, it cannot be assumed that it was Oscar's forces that launched the spells. The storm is believed to have been raging for around eight centuries. It is known to have caused problems for The Empire that spanned the world during the previous age. According to records from that time the sea was a convenient way to transport goods between neighbouring settlements, but the storm prevented more profitable trade across the basin. It currently provides a route for transporting goods between Mirin and Othil, but it's choppy waters men it isn't good for transporting troops. Emperor Kovias Junlinson seems to have accounted for this and has prepared his troops to continue the expansion along the coast using overland routes.
