Dintirn Organization in Tremanac | World Anvil

Dintirn

A group of elves who protect the Forest Kingdom on Laiqua through spying, assassination, sabotage, and other forms of intrigue

Structure

The watchers are organised in cells to minimise the impact if one group is compromised. Those who manage each cell report into a controller who keeps some distance between themselves and a cell. These controllers in turn report into the group's headquarters in Bar-in-Cairen. While there is a nominal leader in the royal court of the kingdom it was found that there was too much of a delay if information had to reach the capital so the real headquarters was moved to the port city on the east coast of Laiqua.

Public Agenda

The goal of the watchers is to protect the kingdom from internal and external threats. These days the Church of the Starbrow takes care of most of the internal threats, so the watchers spend most of their time countering the efforts of the equivalents in the Kingdom of Caresnas.

Assets

The watchers are extremely well equipped with both mundane and magical gear. They are known to make use of enchanted rings which allow the wearer to run faster for a time, and some of their infiltrators use magical accessories like belts or chokers to disguise themselves as humans to infliltrate other lands. The expense of obtaining such equipment is seen as worthwhile given how outnumbered the watchers are.

History

The watchers were set up to mimic the Friends of the Household from the Ancient Kingdom of the Forest, However the Laures were more aggressive than the Silmas so the Watchers are more focused on taking action than the Friends.   The Watchers were expecially active during The Third Age as they sought to keep a check on the expanding independence of the lesser races. These efforts were only partially successful and the discovery of some of their activities helped groups like the Children of the Mind recruit more followers. The Watchers maintain that if they had been properly supported by the Friends then many of the problems encountered in the fourth age wouldn't have happened.   During the fourth age the Watchers have been tasked with restricting the growing power of the lesser races. They had been reasonably successful on Laiqua and in Filishar unti la couple of incidents disrupted several of their plans. The first was several break ins by a group of renegade elves and their human attendants. This culminated in a large fire in the docks of the southern half of Bar-in-Cairen and necessitated a large scale (and hence expensive) assault on Mikel's Town. The second incident was the the inflitration of the group by a group of mindreading (and controlling) creatures from deep below ground. This led to the Razing of Bar-in-Cairen and the death of much of the groups leadership.   Fortunately most of the cells were unaffected and while it took time for contact to be reestablished with all of the teams, operations were able to proceed unhindered. To prevent a repear of this infiltration the group were placed under the supervision of the Church of the Starbrow.

Ongoing Failures
One of the great frustrations in the Watchers is their continued inability to deal with the leadership of the Kingdom of Caresnas. Numerous attempts have been made on people like Hestin Shieldbreaker, Esther Adarin, and Julian Greth but while they may have been injured, and in some cases half died from old age, they have all managed to appoint equally competent successors.
Potion of Early Death
One of the group's great successes has been the spread of a carefully designed healing potion. Using different ingredients to the standard healing potions, these are much cheaper than the standard ones prepared by the temples. They work as healing potions but also reduce the drinker's lifespan. With each draught likely to reduce the drinkers age by a year they have little impact if only taken once, but if taken multiple times they can significantly reduce the lifetime of one of the lesser races.

Loose Affiliation

While their goals frequently align, neither group fully trusts the other and holds the other's methods in contempt.
