All clocks are blessed by the God of the Sun and Time, Izanagi, King of the Gods.
With this blessing, they are able to move on their own, or rather, by the will of Izanagi, to show how time is passing.
Appearance
Clocks can be made in many ways to look however the clockmaker wishes, and there are many in the Abral Empire who have the profession of clockmaker.
However, there are general consistencies between them. They are usually circular, and always have twelve numbers or other measures of time in a circle around its face. Two hands are added to point to the time, both the hour and minute, and some clocks even add hands for the seconds as well.
Aside from this, every clock is unique. Some are wall mounted, some stand on their own on desks or even taller as their own structures, and some can fit into people's pockets.
Power
Timekeeping
A clocks main function is to keep the time. Their faces are uniquely designed to do so, with hands that point to the exact time it is.
Some may break or be partially severed from Izanagi, allowing them to tell an incorrect time. At this point, a monk or priest of Izanagi must be brought to the clock to fix it, as no other force can do so.
Travel
One benefit to this blessing is that Izanagi is able to sense a shift in time zone. If the clock is brought into a different time zone, it will understand this and shift its face to reflect the new time that the one wielding it has entered.
Due to this, clocks are a great tool for seafarers who need to know where they are. This is what has fueled the Kamejin navy, which originates on the Abral Islands, to become as powerful as it is. Every ship is outfitted with a clock to help guide them.
The Towering Clock
In the city of Otshaw, in the middle of the Kingdom of Man, a large castle was built to house the King during a time of crisis. The King worshipped Izanagi, and so he hired monks from the Abral Islands to bless a tower of this castle, which then was adorned with a clock on each side so that he could always tell what time it was.
Since that time, new features have been added to make it more distinct, but its greatest claim to fame is the giant clocks, the largest in the world.
It towers over Otshaw as one of its greatest features, though many find it a rather boring landmark compared to nearby locations like the
Perilous Place of
Perilun or the cat-filled beaches of
Martinau.
