Swornclaw pride Organization in Toriel | World Anvil

Swornclaw pride

Small pride of a few dozen Tabaxi travel the Savage Savannah, tracking and hunting the Orcs or the Redfang clan.

Government

The Swornclaw were created after the bane of Mahad'Dar from the Oreskos pride, and as such, they share numerous values and a similar organization. The communitie treat every member as family, with all taking equal roles in hunting, cooking, family care, and other daily responsibilities. The king, Mahad'Dar make decisions for the pride.   Each year, on the day of the first full moon after the autumn equinox, the king may be challenged, the winner of the challenge taking the title of kind of the pride.

Hierarchy

leader

A leader is a warrior who is highest in the Pride hierarchy. The leader is responsible for everything that goes on in a Pride.   Leaders are the head of their Clan. Their personality is the same as their Pride's and describes how their Pridemates treat others. The word of the Pride leader is law, proclaimed by the warrior code, and all other tabaxis in the Pride must obey them. They are responsible for the whole Pride, calling Pride meetings, appointing tabaxis to new ranks, and making the toughest decisions. Their names end with the suffix "-star". (Examples: Bluestar, Tallstar, Raggedstar).

deputy

A deputy is a warrior who assist the leader, aiding them in their tasks and replacing them immediately after their death or retirement. Also, when the leader is ill, injured, or unable to perform their duties for another reason, the deputy will take the leader's place until they recover.

elders

An elder is a Pride tabaxi that has served their Pride faithfully, but has now retired. They are wise and are held in high respect by the other tabaxis; their counsel and knowledge is sought several times, though they are often described as grumpy. They do not have to catch their own food, nor do hunting patrols or fight, except to defend if necessary.

warriors

Warriors are adult Pride tabaxis who feed and protect their Pride. Their duties are extremely important to the overall survival of the Pride.   Warriors have been trained in the ways of fighting and hunting in addition to the ways of the warrior code. They are charged with the responsibility to feed and protect those tabaxis who are elderly or unable to spend time out of camp.   Warriors make up most of a Clan: each tabaxi is, was, or will be a warrior (except medicine tabaxis), unless they die before they become a warrior. When a tabaxi expects or nurses babies, they temporarily give up their warrior duties, but take them up again when their babies are apprenticed.

apprentice

Apprentices are Pride tabaxis six years or older, training to be a warrior (or sometimes a medicine cat) under a mentor. All apprentices' names end with the suffix "-paw" which symbolizes the path their paws are on, until they receive their warrior name. Most apprentices just have the suffix "-kit" taken off their name and replaced with "-paw". An apprentice becomes a warrior once their mentor or Pride leader thinks they have learned enough or proved they are worthy of becoming warriors.

childs

A child is a tabaxi under the age of six years who is still living in the nursery with their mother. Childs are usually very mischievous and energetic and are known to bother warriors and elders. Most childs are eager to begin their apprenticeship before they reach six years of age and very curious about what happens outside their home. A child's name must end with the suffix "-kit".

Culture

The Swornclaw pride is highly religious as they often refer to the guidance of the spirit named the Star Child.   Swornclaw people are ferocious hunters and warriors, who live to exact revenge on the red orcs, mminotaurs and any who dare to oppose them. Unlike the Oreskos, they do not seek to explore but to protect and restore what they believe to be theirs.   The Swornclaw are among the greatest hunter, their reputation only a shadow of the Oreskos pride, they live for the hunt. The Swornclaw warriors and hunters adorn themselves with the bones of fallen enemies, using them as piercing or ornaments.

Justice

The warrior code is a list of different rules that should be followed by all Pride tabaxis. It is taught from childhood to when an elder is faced with death. It is said that as long as the Prides follow the warrior code, no harm shall come to them.
"The code is a living thing. It changes and grows as it needs to. But perhaps we don't need to change it. Perhaps we could just reorder the rules so that the most important ones come first."
The warrior code is as follows:
  1. Defend all the Prides, even with your life. Your first loyalty is to your Pride, but all tabaxis who follow the warrior code are your allies. Each Pride must ensure that no other Pride falls.
  2. Nevertheless, each Pride is proud and independent, with traditions that must always be respected.
  3. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other tabaxis to win their battles, unless they are outside the code, or it is necessary for self-defense.
  4. Elders, sick or injured tabaxis and childs must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.
  5. No warrior can neglect a child in pain or danger, even if the child is from a different Pride.
  6. A child must be at least six years old to become an apprentice.
  7. The Pride leaader will be selected among the matriarchs when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled.
  8. After the death, retirement, promotion (to a leader status), or exile of a matriarch, a new matriarch must be chosen before moonhigh.
  9. If a Pride member believes that their leader is no longer leading with honor and integrity, they can challenge them. Three-quarters of the Pride members, including their medicine tabaxis, must agree. Their objections will then be presented to the leaders of the other Prides. These objections cannot be raised by the matriarchs.
  10. A warrior or medicine tabaxi may switch their allegiance from one Pride to another but must meet a set of conditions. The tabaxi wishing to change Prides must perform a task of their intended Pride’s choosing. If they succeed, it will be deemed Star Child will that they change Prides, and their request will be granted. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
  11. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to the Star Child for its life.
  12. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
  13. A tabaxi cannot be made matriarch without having mentored at least one apprentice.
  14. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespasser—but a warrior must always remember that all tabaxis follow the warrior code.

Punishment

General. These can be a scolding, giving a warrior apprentice duties, or giving an apprentice an unpleasant task.   Losing their rank. Breaking the code can also result in a tabaxi being stripped of their duties.   Exile. In severe cases, the tabaxi may be exiled from the Pride.
