Town of Dunhill

The Town of Dunhill is a community built around a small but very productive silver mine. The town has a population of just over 2,000 souls, and most of these are Dwarves. Most are Redfist Dwarves, but there is a significant minority of Clan Hardhelm Dwarves that number about 600.   The town itself is built into a narrow valley of the Redstone Hills. The southern end of the valley is walled off with 30' stone walls, 40' towers and a large double gatehouse. A single main road winds its way up the valley with streets and alleys branching off towards the east and west. Buildings, warehouses, apartment blocks and businesses line the main street, and many have additional rooms and passages built into the living rock of the valley walls. Thus, the town is much larger than it at first appears, since a significant portion of it is underground.

Demographics

1,100 Redfist Dwarves, 610 Hardhelm Dwarves, 300 Gnomes and 71 Humans.

Government

Dunhill is ruled by the Sheriff, Declan Miner as the chief administrator and judge of the County. The Sheriff has the aide and support of the Captain of the Town Watch, Clay Jermin, and the Alderman, Verdan Bentorax for the daily governance of the town when the Sheriff is away.

Defences

The mouth of the Dunhill Cut is an opening in the ridgeline roughly 1,500 feet wide.  This opening has been walled with a 30' stone wall that is 18' wide at the top.  The wall is supported by two 30' wide and 50' deep bastions and a double gatehouse flanked by 60' towers that are also 50' deep.  There are two square towers at each end of the wall where it meets the valley sides that stand 60' tall.   The Town is guarded and defended by a Watch made up of a short Company of Rangers led by the Captain of the Watch, Clay Jermin.

Industry & Trade

The Town of Dunhill is centered around a very larger and very profitable silver mine, the Jermin Hill Mine, located at the north end of the valley. The majority of shops and industries within the town are either directly related to the mining operations or cater to the miners and their families. Besides the mine itself, there is a large, multi-storied foundry and furnace where the raw ore is processed into 30 lbs ingots to be tranported down the river to the City of Rolar.

Infrastructure

While much of the Town of Dunhill found within the valley is quite old (dating back more than 125 years), the portions of the town that have been built into the valley walls themselves are quite recent and have included many of the latest construction innovations, including features like chimneys, arched doorways, clay tile flooring and many even have running water.  Roads within the valley are well designed and channel rain and waste water down to the lowest points of the valley floor.  At this portion of the town, there is a 10' by 10' tunnel that runs underneath the central valley road and channels runoff and sewage to man-made bogs located outside the town's walls.

Districts

The main portion of the operating mine is located at the north end of the valley, while the bulk of the Town of Dunhill is in the wider, southern end of the valley.

Guilds and Factions

The majority of Dwarves are of the Clan Redfist and most positions of authority are held by Redfists.  This has made for much resentment and distrust among the Clan Hardhelm Dwarves.
