Drax River Valley

The Drax River is a broad and deep river flowing more than 300 miles from the rugged mountainous interior of the continent to its outlet at the Bay of Drax on the Sellenian coast of the Eastern Sea. The valley of this river covers an area greater than 50,000 square miles and the river itself is generally comparable to the Hudson River in the State of New York. North of the valley are the Akarta Dalash range of mountains and south are the Drax Dalash range. A particularly broad extent of grassy plain, known as the Drax Plain, lies to the south of the river, as well, entirely within the province of Baal.

The Drax River is the established political border between the Empire of Sellenia's province of Aru-Drax and the province of Baal. All Sellenian territory north of the river is Aru-Drax and the territory south of the river is Baal, with the exception of a stretch of the river's headwaters what act as the border for Aru-Baal that runs for about 75 miles.

The Drax River Valley is a very broad and generally flat expanse of territory with dozens of major tributary rivers and hundreds of minor ones. Exceptionally fertile with near ideal seasonal rainfalls for farming and agriculture. The river itself is broad and smooth flowing, making it perfectly navigable for the majority of its length along the valley.

Climate

Tropical near the coast, transitioning to subtropical the further one follows the river inland. Rains are heaviest in the spring and early summer, with the driest season being mid-winter. Summers are long, hot and very humid while winters are short and cool with freezing temperatures occurring only very rarely.
