Arak Mountains
The Arak Mountains are a large chain of mountains located south of the Kingdom of Aria. The range extends from the shores of the Eastern Sea at the Gulf of Arial westward for moer than 1,500 miles, and stretches to the south as far as 500 miles. Many of these gigantic mountains tower miles into the sky, with the tallest of them reaching more than 25,000 feet in elevation.
Geography
A massive and extensive range of high, rugged mountains covering a vast area of the continent. Some cartographers estimate that the range is more than 700,000 square miles. Almost entirely unexplored and nearly impossible to map.
Fauna & Flora
Known abode of Giants, Dragons, Ogres, Trolls, and hundreds of thousands of Orcs. Very few Human, Halfling or Dwarven populations south of the Arial plains, however except along the Arak Coast. Isolated settlements do exist in the northern fringes of the Arak range, but they are constantly at risk of utter destruction by hazards too numerous to name here. Most are simply temporary gatherings of brigands, bandits and exiles fleeing from regional authorities further north.
About 150 miles southeast of the Arial River border of the Elven Realm of Naru is a large community of Drowkin Elves known as Dro'eladrim. This population of Elves numbers as many as 80,000 with another 30,000 slaves and thralls to the Drowkin also living in the valley.
Outside of the very few and very remote centers of civilization, the entire region is dominated by the wild bands of Hill Giants, Ogres, Trolls and (most numerous by far) Orcs by the hundreds of thousands.
Natural Resources
The seemingly endless extent of this mighty range of high, rugged mountains means that within its vast territories one can expect to find nearly any sort of mineral resource imaginable. All the region lacks is the civilized populations needed to harvest and exploit the immeasurable wealth lying just beneath the surface of these terrible mountains.
History
Rumors exist of a lost civilization commonly called the Arakaash Empire, but very little actual evidence exists as to where this civilization was and who built it. Ruins and roads do exist, especially in the far eastern regions of the Arak Mountains, but little is known or understood about who or what built them or when they were built.
