Xonnonus Belt

Xonnonus has been a valuable asset to the Saelians. This is because many asteroids contain valuable metal ores within them. Unlike on planets, however, a space elevator would not be required to efficiently send mined materials to space, as the asteroids are already in space.
The asteroids do however interfere with many kinds of radars as billions of radar tracks are detected. Because of this it is often much more difficult to detect other starships. Because of this, pirates like to form bases. Often these are formed inside the asteroids.
Another hazard is the asteroids themselves. Collisions with asteroids will in many cases completely destroy a starship, so the many sectors of the belt has their own emergency response teams. Space junk is more rare but also exists.
During the Suon-Saelian war, the latter used the belt to launch surprise attacks on unsuspecting suon starships. This resulted in more than a few deaths but they soon learned to stay away. This resulted in a situation where the suons controlled the outer half of the system and the saelians controlled the inner areas. They needed to be rooted out for the assault to continue.
As such, the suons sent probes. These scouted many areas through the asteroids. Using a new kind of hologram projector, these were turned into very convincing decoy ships. These effectively lured the enemy out many times to be blasted by the powerful Photon Cannons and Tachyon Cannons of the suon race.
