Eternity Gate
Immense gate used by the Xadia Ancients to retreat from the Starsong Incident and hide in another universe.
The eternity gate has an immense radius, measured at about 36 AU. The gate is even longer than this; as long as 0.7 lightyears. It is very clear that the megastructure serves a very important purpose as the largest megastructure ever seen by the Hyperion Federation or any species the HF knows exists.
It dwarfs Paragon.
It lies in interstellar space outside of any solar system. The HF scientists are surprised that such a thing is still intact, this Is a feat of engineering even for precursors. How has a star system not crashed into it? How is it powered?
The HF may never figure it out, but they must. The closest star to the Eternity Gate is about 50 lightyears away. It is near the edge of the galaxy outside of any galactic arm, where the stellar density is extremely low. This way, it has not collided with a star in the 1 billion years that it has existed for. Its control room is large, but microscopic compared to the rest of the gate. There are several consoles in the control room, which has an area of about 200 square meters. One of the consoles can turn the gate on, which the HF has (correctly) presumed to be the central-most console. It is very clearly still operational, as this screen eternally plays an animation. This has been running for billions of years. The HF has not figured out how to turn it on yet, or even if it is on at all... The HF has placed a lot of advanced scientific technologies in the control room in order to study it, efforts constantly underway to energise this immense megastructure. As it is one of the closest, deepest secrets of the HF, only that faction knows of its existance. However, a megastructure of such a huge scale is very likely to have a very important use. It is probably the most important object in the Fortrais cluster. Did the Xadia use it to travel to a different galaxy cluster? No, it is far too large and powerful for that. There are only very few theries as to what it could be, or where it leads.
