Binary Targos
A Cyber Sphere planet in the Beta Targos System.
Binary Targos is the only known Cyber Sphere world that exists outside the Unreachable Star Cluster near Arcturus. It is also perhaps the best known cyber sphere in existance, as it engineered the Harkas and Astromoeba species by sending probes to space, who would go on to conquer the rest of the Arkan galaxy. They would never develop any method of intergalactic travel, however, until the Hyperion Federation discovered the galaxy.
Binary Targos is also the only known Cyber Sphere with a lot of organic life. As such, many Harkas have evolved to survive on Binary Targos, having arrived on the planet from orbit (using the radiators as wings initially. The radiators would soon evolve into actual wings). Even many of the underground sectors of the world would contain life, including the core. Binary Targos would still not be perfect for life despite this. Like on most cyber spheres, it had strange weather patterns, often harmful to life. For example, very few species would evolve to withstand molten metal rain or extreme radiation storms. Sometimes, nanobot clouds would manifest, tearing all biological life apart, leaving no remains at all. These nanobots storms would leave everything that was not biological completely intact.
The Harkas subspecies that developed here are known as Binary Harkas. They are classified Midworldians. They vary significantly, some being able to survive some extreme conditions including the extreme heat and cold.
Life on this world has developed the ability to evolve more rapidly to account for the ever changing and often very dangerous nature of the planet. However, evolution was also improved by some sectors of the sphere. In some cases, nanobots would actively help some species to evolve, so it was nearly impossible to tell what sort of species could evolve at any one time, leading to extreme planetary genetic diversity. The vast majority of Binary Targos has been mapped by the Harkas over thousands of generations and this map was provided to the Hyperion Federation to explore. This makes this cyber sphere the best known planet of its type in existance. Also, it is part of a binary system with another planet of similar size, known as Panagia. Both worlds orbit their parent star within the habitable radius of the star.
The planet resembles a large gridlike frame with many massive computing components in lower layers. The frame seems to have somewhat decayed though, despite the eternal nature of a Cyber Sphere. It is possible that it was built that way. The surface has many large strip oceans that run only in the various cardinal directions. When projected onto a 2D equirectangular map, these oceans and frames seem perfectly flat and aligned but in reality they are heavily warped by the curvature of the planet especially near the poles. This warp is very clear from space. This was a result of the once-Cynar collapsing from its original multidimensional form, but no one knows that.
These oceans are not nessesarily comprised of water. Several liquids can be found in them. The most common is water. Oceans of liquid metal, an extremely high-energy plasma, oceans of fissile material and an exotic purple liquid filled with nanobots and containing trace amounts of magnetic monopoles. The purple fluid is the most rare liquid, followed by the fissile, radioactive water. Liquid metal, 'regular' water and plasma are quire common.The local population have named the plasma "stardust", the radioactive liquid "Tharkic liquid" and the rare purple fluid "magic liquid". These names originated from before they had any scientific method.
The frames are massive structures that can form fully metallic cliffs that stretch for kilometers above the ground. They can also sometimes feature large overhangs that meny organisms put their habitats on, often to hide from predators (the overhangs are hard to navigate on without falling off). Flying creatures such as birds seem to prefer these habitats. Sometimes there are elevator systems that still function and allow easy access to the top of a frame. These were placed on the world intentionally by the Xadia in the manufacturing process. Although the several oceans of water are the largest bodies of water, there are a large number of smaller pools near the surface shallow underground which are often used by creatures to drink from.
