Toolsets

Toolsets can be used by characters to ply a particular craft. In general they are used to craft equipment, magic items or consumables. Others can allow users to perform specialized tasks. All toolsets can be used to provide advantage on skillcheck under certain circumstances. The user can enhance their own skillchecks or give advantage to their allies by providing help.

Artisan's Tools

These toolsets are primarily used for crafting items, but can provide bonuses for skillchecks under the right circumstances.  

Alchemist's Suplies

Alchemist's suplies can be used investigate magical compounds, or to produce such compounds, including weapon oils or alchemist's fire. They can also be used to brew magical potions.

Alchemist's suplies include two glass beakers, a metal frame to hold a beaker in place over an open flame, a glass stirring rod, a small mortar and pestle, and a pouch of common alchemical ingredients, including salt, powdered iron, spiritus, and purified water.
Proficiency
Proficiency in alchemist's suplies allows the user to improve their skill checks when it concerns chemicals, compound, potions, or magical materials. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Identifying the function of potions, compounds and other magical substances, as well as other relevant infromation about them.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that contains chemical substances.
  • Lore: Recalling information about magical or chemical compounds.
Crafting
Alchemist's tools can be used to craft Compounds, which provide weapon buffs, and Potions that provide buffs to creatures.  

Brewer's tools

Brewing is the art of producing beer and distilling alcohol. Not only does beer serve as an alcoholic beverage, but the process of brewing purifies water. Crafting beer takes weeks of fermentation, but only a few hours of work.

Brewer's tools include a large glass jug, a quantity of hops, a siphon, and several feet of tubing.
Proficiency
Proficiency in brewer's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve alcohol in any way. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Recalling information on events that involve alcohol or celebrations.
  • Medicine: Providing strong spirits to numb pain or disinfect wounds.
  • Persuasion: Plying people with drink allows the user to mellow the mood of their counterpart.
  • Performance: Drunken confidence is sometimes useful to sell a performance.
  • Survival: Providing food while foraging, and purifiing drinking water.

Brewers's tools can be used to craft Brews, which provide small buffs to creatures for longer periods of time.  

Carver's tools

Carver's tools allow you to harvest more materials from nature, and craft these materials into weapons and wonderous items.

Carver's tools consist of a small axe, a knife, a file, a gouge, and a small saw.
Proficiency
Proficiency in carver's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve carved goods, trinkets, and carvable materials. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Identifying the function of, and recalling information on carved objects or materials such as wood. Allows the user to distinguish between builing style and culture of wooden structures
  • Survival: Aids in harvesting ingredients such as wood, horn, carapace, or other carvable materials
  • Repair/Build: Repairing of building wooden structures.
Crafting
Carver's tools can be used to craft Weapons, Shields, Staves, Wands , and Fabrials.  

Clothier's tools

Clothier's tools allow you to create cloth and tailor it into articles of clothing.

Clothier's tools include thread, needles, scisors, and rolls of cloth. You know how to work a loom, but such equipment is too large to transport.
Proficiency
Proficiency in clothier's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve cloth and attire. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Identifying the function of, and recalling information about cloth or attire, such as robes or cloaks.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involved woven cloth, tappestries, or clothes. Identifying where someone has been based on the clothes they have left behind. Allows the user to gain infomation about a person based on the clothes they wear.
Special Skill - Sewing
The user can craft a suitable set of attire, or adjust an existing set to fit someone. As part of their long rest, and with the right materials, worth half the usual cost of the outfit, they can craft an outfit that allows someone to fit into any social environment.

Clothier's tools can be used to craft Clothing, and Wonderous Atire made from cloth.  

Cook's utensils

Adventuring is a hard life. With a cook along on the journey, your meals will be much better than the typical mix of hardtack and dried fruit.

Cook's utensils include a metal pot, knives, forks, a stirring spoon, a ladle, cooking salt, and jars of dried herbs and spices.
Proficiency
Proficiency in carver's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that carved goods, trinkets, and carvable materials. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Recalling information about societies and cultures based on the food they eat.
  • Medicine: Improving medicine by making remedies more palatable.
  • Survival: When foraging for food, the user can make do with ingredients scavenged that others would be unable to transform into nourishing meals.
Cooking
Cook's utensils can be used to cook Meals, providing healing and buffs to the party during rests.  

Fletcher's tools

Fletcher's tools can be used to craft bows, crossbows, arrows and bolts, including specialized ammunition with additional effects.

  • Lore: Identifying the function of magical ammunition, as well as other relevant infromation about them.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involved the firing of ammunition.

Herbalism kit

Proficiency with an herbalism kit allows you to identify plants or other such ingredients, and safely collect their useful elements. These can then be brewed into consumables that provide buffs or healing.

Proficiency
Proficiency in the herbalism kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve plants and magical ingredients. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Identifying the function of potions, and other herbal substances, as well as other relevant infromation about them.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on areas overgrown with plants.
  • Medicine: Mastery of herbalism improves the user's ability to treat illnesses and wounds by augmenting their methods of care with medicinal plants.
  • Survival: Herbalism makes it easier to identify ingredients and spot sources of food that others might overlook.

Herbalism kit can be used to craft Potions, and Potions - Healing.  

Jewler's tools

Training with jeweler's tools includes the basic techniques needed to beautify gems and work with noble metals. It also gives you expertise in identifying precious stones and crafting wonderous items from them.

Proficiency
Proficiency in jewler's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve jewels, crystals, or jewel encrusted objects. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Identifying the function of gems or gem-based magical items, as well as other relevant information about them.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that contains jewel encrusted objects. Small inperfections in a gem can sometimes tell a significant clue.
  • Lore:Gain relevant information about gemstones, jewelry and other treasures.
  • Apprase: The user can determine the value of any gem or crystal they find.

Leatherworker's tools

Knowledge of leatherworking extends to lore concerning animal hides and their properties. It also confers knowledge of leather armor and similar goods.

Leatherworker's tools include a knife, a small mallet, an edger, a hole punch, thread, and leather scraps.
Proficiency
Proficiency in leatherworker's tools allows the user to improve their skill check that involve leather equipment. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Identifying the function of magical leather equipment.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves leather equipment. Picking out details that might indicate previous use.
  • Lore: Identifying the source of the leather, as well as the techniques of the craftsmanship. Allowing the user to distinguish between leatherwork from different cultures.
  • Survival: Harvesting materials such as hides or skins is made easier by the use of these tools.

Poisoner's kit

A poisoner's kit is a favored resource for thieves, assassins, and others who engage in skulduggery. It allows you to apply poisons and create them from various materials. Your knowledge of poisons also helps you treat them.

Proficiency in the poisoner's kit allows the user to craft and use poisons, as well as identify unknown poisons. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Recall information on famous historical events that involved poisonings.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves poisons. The user can identify poisonous substances and infer what they may have been used for.
  • Medicine: Treating victims of poisons. Allowing themselves or others to roll with advantage on Consitution saving throws against the effects of poison by spending an action to help them.
  • Survival: Identifying poisonous plants, or bodyparts. Helps the user to harvest poisonous ingredients.
Special Skill - Handling Poisons
The user is able to handle poisonous substances without the danger of poisoning themselves.

Scholar's kit

Scholar's kit are used for administrative and academic pursuits. They make it easier to dig through or sort large amounts of written information.

Proficiency
Proficiency in scholar's kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve books, paperwork, or academia. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Any checks made to find information from written sources, such as books or documents are made easier.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involve documentation or other paperwork. A solid grasp on interpretive reading allows the user to find clues that others might overlook.
Special skill - Academic
The user is a member of a respected academic institution, and can access better sources of information (such as university libraries) by leveraging those credentials.

If the user is a spellcaster, they can transcribe any spell on their spell list onto a Spell Scroll.  

Smith's tools

Smith's tools allow you to work metal, beating it to alter its shape, repair damage, or work raw ingots into useful items.

Proficiency in smith's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve metal weapons, tools, and other metalwork. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcane: Identifying the function of magical weapons and armour.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves metal objects. The user can identify metal objects and what their might have been used for in the past.
  • Lore: Recalling information on metal objects and metal strucures.

Smith's tools can be used to craft metal Weapons and Armour.  

Stonecrafter's tools

Stonecrafter's tools allow you to craft stone carved weapons, equipment and structures, including walls and buildings crafted from brick.

Proficiency
Proficiency in carver's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve stone tools, buildings, or other objects. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves stonework. The user is able to spot details that others might overlook.
  • Deduction: Spot irregularities in stone walls or floors, making it easier to find trap doors and secret passages.
  • Lore: Identifying the function of, and recalling information on stone objects or buildings. The user is able to distinguish the history or purpose of a building and the culture that made it by the stonework.
Special Skill - Demolition Expepert
The user can spot weak points in brick walls. They deal double damage to such structures with their attacks and spells.

Tinker's tools

A set of tinker's tools is designed to enable you to repair many mundane objects. In addition, it allows for the manufacture and repair of mechanisms, crossbows and firearms.

Tinker's tools include a variety of hand tools, thread, needles, a whetstone, gunpowder, scraps of cloth and leather, and a small pot of glue.
Proficiency
Proficiency in tinker's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve mechanisms, and firearms. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves mechanisms of firearms. The user can identify a mechanisms and what it might have been used for in the past, or how old it is. Only a small part of the mechanism is required.
  • Lore: Recalling information on mechanisms or firearms. The user only needs a small part of the mechanism to identify it's function or how old it is.
Special Skill - Engineering
Repairing or building mechanisms. Both small mechanisms such as timepieces, or larger mechanisms such as the gears of a drawbridge.

Tinkerer's tools can be used to craft Weapons, such as crossbows, firearms, and special Ammunition for these weapons.  

Special trade tools

Special trade tools cannot be used to craft equipment, magic items or consumables. Instead, they allow the user to perform special skills that would otherwise be impossible for a character to do.  

Cartographer's tools

Using cartographer's tools, you can create accurate maps to make travel easier for yourself and those who come after you. These maps can range from large-scale depictions of mountain ranges to diagrams that show the layout of a dungeon level.

Cartographer's tools consist of a quill, ink, parchment, a sextant, a pair of compasses, a timepiece, calipers, and a ruler.
Proficiency
Proficiency in cartographer's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve mapreading, wayfinding, navigating, and surveying. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deduction: Familiarity with physical geography makes it easier for the user to answer questions or solve issues relating to the surrounding terrain.
  • Lore: Information about maps. Spoting hidden messages in a map, identify when the map was made to determine if geographical features have changed since then, and so forth.
  • Survival: Navigating at sea or in the Wylderness. Finding you way outside of well traveled routes and preventing the party from losing they bearings.
Special skill - Surveying
Survey locations and craft maps of the local geography. The user can spend their long rest updating their personal maps. They gain one automatic success on travel montages over previously traveled terain.  

Disguise kit

The perfect tool for anyone who wants to engage in trickery, a disguise kit enables its owner to adopt a false identity.

A disguise kit includes cosmetics, hair dye, small props, and a few pieces of clothing.
Proficiency
Proficiency in the disguise kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve deception, trickery, and social infiltration. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deception: In certain cases, a disguise can improve your ability to weave convincing lies.
  • Intimidation: The right disguise can make you look more fearsome, whether you want to scare someone away by posing as a plague victim or intimidate a gang of thugs by taking the appearance of a bully.
  • Performance: A cunning disguise can enhance an audience's enjoyment of a performance, provided the disguise is properly designed to evoke the desired reaction.
  • Performance: Dressing to better suit the current social environment helps the user in acting to the socially acceptable standard.
  • Persuation: Folk tend to trust a person in uniform. If the user disguises themself as an authority figure, their efforts to persuade others are often more effective.
Special skill - Craft Disguises
As part of a long rest, the user can create a disguise. Less involved diguises can be created in around 1-10 minutes. It takes the user 1 minute to don such a disguise once it is created. The user can carry only one such disguise at a time without drawing undue attention, unless they have a Bag of Holding or a similar method to keep them hidden. Each disguise weighs 1 pound.  

Economist's kit

An economist's kit is used for conducting business. It can be used for keeping track of large sums of money, and predict the return of investment on business endeavours.

An economist's kit consists of a quill, ink, paper notes, graph paper, a ruler, and an abacus.
Proficiency
Proficiency in the economist's kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve business dealings, managing properties, or leveraging wealth. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Business: Dealing in coin or wealth becomes less risky when one has a good insight into what they have, and what they can spend.
  • Lore: Identifying the economic reasons behind larger societal trends. There are often many materialistic reasons why large groups make certain decissions.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves someone's spending habits or financial paperwork.
  • Persuation/Intimidation: Using the promise of wealth or the threat of financial ruin is a good motivator to get others to comply with your wants.
Special skill - Leveraging wealth
Roll any Business check made to leverage weatlh at advantage. If the user already had advantage due to other circumstances, they roll Tripple Advantage.  

Forgery kit

A forgery kit is designed to duplicate documents and to make it easier to copy a person's seal or signature.

Components
A forgery kit includes several different types of ink, a variety of parchments and papers, several quills, seals and sealing wax, gold and silver leaf, and small tools to sculpt melted wax to mimic a seal.
Proficiency
Proficiency in the forgery kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve forging fake ojects and recognising fakes. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Determine if a magical item is real or fake.
  • Deception: A well-crafted forgery, such as papers proclaiming the user to be a noble or a writ that grants them safe passage, can lend credence to a lie.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on examining objects. Determining how an object was made and whether it is genuine.
  • Lore: Create fake historical documents or to tell if an old document is authentic.
  • Other Toolsets: Knowledge of other tools makes the user's forgeries that much more believable. For example, combining proficiency with a forgery kit and proficiency with cartographer's tools to make a fake map.
Special skill - Forgery
As part of a short rest, the user can produce a forged document no more than one page in length. As part of a long rest, they can produce a document that is up to four pages long. Determine the user's passive Forgery skill by the following equation: 10 + INT + Proficiency bonus + 3 (if the user has proficiency in another toolset or skill they are using for the forgery). This becomes the DC for someone else's Intelligence (Investigation) check to spot the fake.  

Healer's kit

Healer's kit is used to make administer first aid, and improve the effectiveness of aplied medicine.

A Healer's kit is a leather pouch containing bandages, sutures and needles, salves, and splints. It also contains a handbook on common illnesses and injuries.
Proficiency
Proficiency in the healer's kit allows the user to gain advantage on their skill checks that involve aplied medicine:
  • Medicine: Any checks made to perform first aid. Similarily, medical examinations or diagnosis is made much easier.
  • Medicine: The autopsy of corpses is more effective when the autopser has a good understanding of anatomy.
Special skill - Apply Triage
The user can use an Action to stabilize a dying creature. Combine with the Healer feat for battlefied medicine.  

Linguist's kit

Linguist's kit are used to make notes on foreign languages, and broaden the user's understanding of them. They make conversing in and understanding foreign languages easier.

Linguist's kit consist of a quill, ink, paper notes, and multipe small dictionaries.
Proficiency
Proficiency in linguist's kit allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve understanding foreign languages. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involve documentation or conversations in languages that the party does not speak.
  • Lore: Any checks made to understand a language the the user does not speak themselves. A broad understanding of foreign vocabulary and gramatical structures makes the user better at understanding foreign languages.
  • Lore: Identifying wider cultural behavoirs by the quirks of it's spoken language and written word.
  • Persuation: Making oneself understood in a foreign language. The user does not roll at disadvantage when conversing in a foreign language.
Special skill - Knack for Linguistics
You can learn a foreign language in half the time it would otherwise take you.  

Musical Instruments

Proficiency with a musical instrument indicates you are familiar with the techniques used to play it. You also have knowledge of some songs commonly performed with that instrument.

Proficiency in a musical instument allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve playing their instrument. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Identifying the lore behind songs that are sung by the local minstrals.
  • Performance: The user's ability to put on a good show is improved when they incorporate an instrument into the act.
Special skill - Bardic Privelage
As part of a long rest, the user can compose a new tune and lyrics for the instrument. They might use this ability to impress a noble or spread scandalous rumors with a catchy tune. Done well enough, this can significantly affect the local zeitgeist, allowing the user to mold public opinion. The user rolls a Performance check to see how effective their tune is. If they are a Bard, they roll at advantage.  

Painter's tools

Proficiency with painter's supplies represents your ability to paint and draw. You also acquire an understanding of art history, which can aid you in examining works of art.

Painter's tools include an easel, canvas, paints, brushes, charcoal sticks, scetch paper, and a palette.
Proficiency
Proficiency in painter's tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve the artistic pursuits. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involve art. This includes what culture a piece of art is from, where it has been kept in the past, and who it might belong to.
  • Lore: Expertese in art aids in uncovering lore of any sort that is attached to a work of art, such as the subject of a painting or the origins of a strange mural found in a dungeon.
  • Performance: A knowledge of art can be useful in socializing with the higher echelons of society. Any Performance check to blend in with the Upper classes is made at advantage.
Special skill - Photographic Scetch
As part of a short or long rest, the user can produce a simple scetch of an object, creature or environment. The user can perfectly convey any details that they were able to focus on while drawing.  

Thieves' tools

Perhaps the most common tools used by adventurers, thieves' tools are designed for picking locks and foiling traps. Proficiency with the tools also grants you a general knowledge of traps and locks.

Thieves' tools include a small file, a set of lock picks, a small mirror mounted on a metal handle, a set of narrow-bladed scissors, and a pair of pliers.
Proficiency
Proficiency in thieves' tools allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve disarming traps, unlocking locks and other types of skullduggery. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Lore: Recalling information on pety criminals, thieves, or thieves' guilds.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involves signs of break in. Breaking and entering tends to leave evidence behind.
  • Sleight of Hand: Using manual dexerity and technique, the user can unlock locks or disarm traps.
Special skill - Setting Traps
Just as you can disable traps, you can also set them. As part of a short rest, you can create a trap using items you have on hand. The DC for someone else's attempt to dodge, discover or disable the trap is set by the folowing equation: 10 + DEX + Proficiency bonus + 3 (if user has proficiency in Sleight of Hand). The trap deals damage equal to half the total of the DC, and can inflict other effects (such as knocking the target prone if ball bearings are used, or poisoning the target if poison is used).  

Vehicles (Land, or Maritime)

Proficiency with land vehicles covers a wide range of options, from chariots and howdahs to wagons and carts. Proficiency with maratime vehicles covers anything that navigates waterways. Proficiency with vehicles grants the knowledge needed to handle vehicles of that type, along with knowledge of how to repair and maintain them.   In addition, a character proficient with maratime vehicles is knowledgeable about anything a professional sailor would be familiar with, such as information about the sea and islands, tying knots, and assessing weather and sea conditions. A character proficient in land vehicles would know about life in a caravan or traveling army.

Proficiency in vehicles allows the user to improve their skill checks that involve the vehicle. The user can provide advantage on their own skill checks or provide help to others in circumstances similar to the folowing:
  • Arcana: Any magical contraptions used to augment a vehicle can more easily be identified.
  • Dexerity: The user can roll their Dexterity to steer the vehicle during montages and action scenes. They can add their proficiency bonus to the roll.
  • Lore: Recognising the flags and heraldry of nations and organisations is useful when traveling.
  • Deduction: Gaining information or clues based on evidence that involve vehicles, such as tracks, wear and tear, or maintainance records.
Special Skill - Vehicle Maintainance
During a short rest, the user can restore 10 hit points to a vehicle by performing small repairs and maintenance.
Special skill - Travel Expert
