Grass Sea
On the southern edge of the continent of Vald lies a seemingly endless grassland. There, the horizons seem to go on forever, and those who travel it feel very small. This place is appropriately named the Grass Sea.
Geography
As the name implies, the Grass Sea is a huge open grassland. Trees are very, very few, and it is a common thing to be able to see from horizon to horizon and not be able to see a single tree. Streams are a fairly common sight here, as are lakes.
The region is bordered by Mandia to the north and is separated from the Aljanni Desert to the west by mountains. To the east and south lie the seemingly endless waters of the Dawn Sea.
The climate here is on the warm side of temperate, with hot summers and mild winters. The primary notable thing about the area's climate is the wind. With nothing to stop it, the wind is frequently a howling gale.
Fauna & Flora
The plant life of the region mostly consists of long grasses, although herbs and tumbleweeds are common as well. Mundane animals consist of horses, antelope, deer, wolves, coyotes, and foxes, among many more. Magical creatures include hippogriffs, griffons, and manticores. Dragons are rarer here than they are on other places in the continent.
Most of the sentient residents here are human, with halflings being especially prevalent. Gnolls make up most of the rest of the population, with most packs being deadly raiders. Others, however are more peaceful hunters and trappers.
Natural Resources
Much of the wealth of the area lies in farming. In particular, most of this agriculture is in the herding of livestock, especially sheep. The soil is also surprisingly fertile, allowing for the growing of crops, especially grain.
The western mountains are also a source of stone and metal. The lengthy coastlines to the south and east provide the bounty of the sea. This includes fish, salt, and even pearls from those few with the courage to dive for them.
