Dargo

Dargo is a male gnoll, living with his family at Copperclaw's Home, where he serves as a guard when custom is high.

 

Physical Appearance

Dargo is a mix of traditional and civilised in his appearance; clean and groomed fur, finely made clothing, armour and equipment, but a thug's face sporting the marks of many brawls, and with arms scarred from blades. His fur is the dark brown of his father, with the same near-gold eyes.

 

History

Being raised by a merchant and a midwife gave Dargo an extremely varied education as a child, though he ultimately decided to become a warrior due to his natural strength and endurance. He keeps a few of his eclectic talents honed through practice, however, and dreams of one day going out into the world on his own like his father did, albeit as a mercenary or soldier instead of a merchant.

 

Connections

 

As a Hireling

Dargo can be taken on as a hireling for 3sp a day, and will not object to assisting with any task that falls short of unprovoked assault. He will follow his employer to anywhere within the borders of Stein's Brook, but may require encouragement to leave it.

While in service as a hireling, Dargo gains experience equal to whatever his employer gains through combat. If he gains 6,000exp this way, he can (with his employer's assistance) retrain his Warrior levels into Fighter levels instead. This takes one week of dedicated training, and raises his fee as a hireling to 5gp to reflect his greater expertise. He cannot replace his Expert level through any means. His new Fighter levels collectively grant him the following bonuses:

  • +2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Int, +1 Wis, and +0 Cha, as his array changes from basic to heroic.
  • Knowledge (dungeoneering) and Knowledge (engineering) are added to his list of class skills.
  • Power Attack and Cleave, as Fighter bonus feats.
  • Bravery +1, as per the Fighter class ability.
  • Armour Training, as per the Fighter class ability.

Xenophobic: Gnolls start knowing their racial language only.

Natural Armour: Gnoll hides are remarkably tough, granting them a +2 natural armor bonus.

Darkvision (60 feet): A Gnoll can see in the dark (black and white vision only).

 

TRAITS AND DRAWBACKS

 

Merchant's Child: Dargo gains a +1 trait bonus on Appraise checks, and Appraise is always a class skill for him.

Mercenary: Dargo gains a +2 trait bonus on Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks made while negotiating payment for a quest or a service that he provided.
