The Kidnap
Magnar, with the help of the others, has to free Anselma. She has got kidnapped by members of the Bladed Pouch and is in a part of the Shadowfell.
Plot points/Scenes
Magnar wakes up at the usual time but feels groggy and a tad ill. He finds that Anselma is not there and that part of the bed is cool as if it hasn't been slept in for a few hours. Examining the building there is no sign of her and her gear is there, as well as a damaged chair as if it has been knocked over. A strong strange smell emanates from the fireplace in the room and footprints are present in places of dirt. it looks as if there were at least 5 people present and the shape of them seems to indicate slender builds & light on their feet.
There also seems to be a slight smoky fog trace seeping away, and a note. It reads "Bring the cloak of your friend to us in one piece. To the corresponding fort of Eschbach in the Shadowfell. You have a full day after reading this and Anselma will live. If not, she dies painfully." Then the note disappears in a puff of grey cold smoke.
The adventurers will have to decide whether to infiltrate the Shadowfell or not, though likely will. To get there they need a portal opened specifically to the Shadowfell and if they can't themselves then one of the Grove clerics will have to.
When there, they may well be seen as outsiders and may find that they are troubled in the shadow form of Eschbach. There has been a fight of some kind recently here and Shadar-Kai rebels of the Bladed Pouch has done some damage. They went through a portal and brought Anselma back and the locals blame the outsiders for drawing the rebels to their town.
They won't be helped by them, and run the risk of the local Shadar-Kai authorities to attack and / or arrest them. There they have to either fight back or persuade them to let them carry out dealing with the rebels themselves. Arne's cloak attracts a bit of attention for better or worse. He can use it to help persuade the locals, or forced to hand it over so it can be used to pay off the rebels.
They do find out there is at least 10 Shadar-Kai at the fort and they are extremely hostile. They are after the cloak and may be the only way to pay them off. Either that or killed. They have already attacked Anselma who has suffered a beating at their hands.
All the while they have set up mirrors in and around the fort and there is the risk of Shadows coming out of them (about 50% chance of this). Any Shadow will attack them on sight.
The players have to rescue Anselma from the dungeon, which has a set of 8 mirrors of which a Shadow can slip out. If they get past the rebels, and then the mirrors, they will have to bust her out to get home. They have to go the way they came.
There is a chest in the room with Anselma which has between 100 to 10000 gold inside it too.
How they get past any hostiles is up to them.
