Personal history
Minaz was the daughter of the Demon General before Jurao, and had always assumed she would take over that role. In fact, everyone assumed that - she was raised with that intention.
As such, by the time she was a young adult, Minaz was already a master of a variety of weapons with a strong sense of tactics and battle strategy. The only thing she lacked was leadership.
Minaz has very little tolerance and patience for incompetence, and when she was young had a difficult time distinguishing between it and inexperience. To remedy the situation, her mother the General Imeveo gave her a squad of “trouble officers” - but only the ones the General saw great potential Minaz’s job was to spot that potential herself, and figure out how to nurture it.
This squad included the future Demon King Jurao, and a noblewoman named Exka he was friends with.
Minaz initially clashed with Jurao the most - though, only Minaz was aware of this. She couldn’t understand anything the man did - from his choice in secretary to his lack of decorum despite getting etiquette lessons from Exka’s cousin Feyl, she couldn’t fathom why her mother had given him a rank.
Until, of course, she saw him in combat - during a routine training exercise afield, they were attacked by a pair of quad-sabered lionsnakes. While Minaz dismissed her squad and attempted to route both beasts herself, Jurao took command. He was a better fighter than she was, and knew the strengths and weaknesses of all his squad members - and how to use them best in combat. Despite being around the same age and raised as a blacksmith, it was clear by Jurao’s skills which one of them was truly destined to become General.
Humbled, Minaz stopped trying to fight Jurao and instead tried to learn from him. While he still often frustrated her, actually listening to his reasoning instead of trying to force her own on him made her see things from a new perspective, and she soon considered Jurao a friend and equal, rather than a subordinate.
While this had not been Imeveo’s intention, she also conceded that Jurao was more suited as her successor than Minaz. Minaz was still Jurao’s second when he became General, and swore her loyalty to him as a leader.
At this time, she first met Hujur - then the Second to the Head of Administration. As one of Jurao’s Commanders, paperwork usually went through Hujur via her or another Commander. She and Hujur formed a friendship over the centuries, one that would eventually lead to her joining the romantic relationship he’d already established with a young spy named Vajur.
So when Jurao Ascended to Demon King, he did not consider anyone but Minaz for his Right Hand - the person who would run the castle in his absence and take over should an unforeseen tragedy fell him.
