Personal history
Vajur is the only son of his parent and predecessor, Faeor. His mother, another spy, died in the line of duty before he was born.
Faeor raised Vajur strictly - intending for their son to become their perfect successor. Vajur's childhood was one of routine and criticism, along with a deeply ingrained mistrust of humans. Faeor had grown more bitter towards the species after their wife was betrayed by alleged allies, leading to her death, and they imparted their anger and resentment onto their son along with their experience as a spymaster.
Vajur strove to please his parent, pushing himself to excel in his lessons and behave in the way Faeor deemed appropriate for his rank and station. The only thing he could not seem to bring under control - to the disappointment of his parent - was his temper. A spy that could not control their emotions was a spy destined for failure.
The first major change in Vajur's life came when Faeor assigned him to discretely watch a new employee in the castle - a Petty Prince working in the Administration Office, Hujur. Faeor was suspicious of such a high ranking person working their way up to a subordinate position, as the Demon King's spymaster also monitored the other cities, though their fears turned out to be unfounded.
Hujur was everything Vajur wasn't - he went against his parents' wishes to pursue his own interests, and often acted out of line with his rank. Vajur was immediately drawn to him, and Hujur found the spy's inability to admit his attraction endearing - teasing Vajur rather than taking the young spy's prickly comments of denial at face value. Over time, the pair formed a romantic relationship - and for the first time, Vajur didn't care that Faeor did not approve.
Vajur and Faeor continued to grow apart as Vajur grew closer to Hujur. Vajur's struggle between wanting to please Faeor and wanting to be independent like his partner caused strain in his relationship with Hujur, but Vajur slowly grew into more of his own person by deciding what was really important to him in life - and Hujur was at the top of that list.
He later met Minaz through his partner, and she better understood his struggles, having equally looked up to her mother, General Imeveo. While Imeveo had never been as strict as Faeor, Minaz had also been raised to be her successor, and better understood the kind of pressure that caused compared to Hujur. As a younger member of several siblings, Hujur had never been expected to take on any specific responsibilities despite his rank, and thus could only sympathize without emphasizing.
The three formed a solid romantic polycule, and Vajur and Faeor became more estranged despite Vajur continuing to work for his parent. After Vajur was appointed spymaster by Demon King Jurao, Faeor disappeared. They left a note stating that Vajur clearly no longer wanted nor needed their guidance - and Vajur has not attempted to find them since their departure.
