Kaleina-Torra Portage

This portage route connects Lake Tulli to Lake Pauvahäs. It's a little over 7 miles, and takes around 3 - 4 hours to traverse on foot while carrying typical travel gear.   The route is not a straight line. It curves to avoid uneven terrain or areas with high numbers of bloodsap trees. It doesn't get enough traffic to invest in building walls all along the route, but intermittent palisade walls have been built along the stretches with the most bloodsap trees in the vicinity. Three Uhaaki Cage are spaced along its length, where unfortunate travellers can lock themselves in if they're being chased and wait for help.   At the western terminus is Fort Leillu, operated by the Torren Guard. At the eastern terminus is Fort Ekkilo operated by the Border Rangers. Escort along the route is mandatory - two guards per every 6 travellers accompany all travelling parties along the route (and always at least 2, even if only 1 traveller needs escort).   At either fort, travellers can rent carts and caribou to haul their cargo and even their entire boat. Less affluent travellers simply carry their canoes over their shoulders. Renting a cart is required if the alternative would be to make multiple trips, however - it is essential to limit the amount of time spent in the Forest as much as possible.
