The Grantham Family

The Grantham family are the top family of the Tumult aristocracy. They are a human family, and hold most their power within Felicity. The lands they own and rule over are littered throughout Tumult unlike the other noble families who tend to concentrate in certain regions. Whenever the throne is empty for any reason, the Granthams are made the stewards until a new king arrives. This privilege makes them highly concerned with political affairs, though they are checked by technically not being allowed to marry into the king's line. Lady Anne was the only known exception, though she was disowned for it. Largely, they compete with the monarchy for public approval, and there were periods of Tumults history where the Granthams were the real ones in power despite not being on the throne.

Culture

The Grantham family is fairly human centric. They do not openly profess their racism, but it is fairly rampant in their numbers. Their lands see a tendency of race conflicts, and during the Dance Incident of 1040 they stoked riots that proved deadly to the Silvergraft Elves. They hope to make Tumult into a human controlled nation, with the other races being placed in the subordinate class.

Assets

The Granthams have vast wealth and influence. Mainly through high taxation and low spending, they have acquired wealth that surpass even the throne of Tumult. They also stay clear of costly conflicts, thus keeping their coffers full.
