The Vostor School for Necromantic Advancement

Lily stepped out of the army truck and onto school grounds. The green rolling hills stretched out as far as the eye could see, with the tiled path cutting a serpentine swathe through the countryside and towards a vast building in the distance. Here and there, students milled around - the best and brightest, dressed in finery. She stood out like a dismembered thumb, a good decade older than most of them, with calloused hands and battle-scars, dressed in army fatigues that still stunk of battle.   "I hope you know what you're doing," Lily muttered to Elaine. The nekrobiotek smiled.   "Trust me. There's no place better to learn."
The Vostor School for Necromantic Advancement is the premiere academy for budding necromancer and their unfortunate assistants. Located deep within the republic, the academy grounds are large enough to house a small city, all owned and operated by the Vostrovi Clan. Other than magic, the school offers a wide curriculum of theoretical and practical knowledge (sometimes called thanatology) necromancers need to fully utilize their craft. These range from biology to surgery and even economics, with the logistics of undeath always one of its greatest boons to humanity.   Besides teaching, the school is a site of significant research. In forbidden areas and secret laboratories, necromancers test the limits of what is possible and challenge what isn't. One claim to fame for the Academy is the invention and refinement of the Grounding Harness, allowing necromancers to cast their spells with much less chance of cooking themselves alive.   Admittance to the school is a matter of prestige and wealth. Even going there is a sign of status, and so most who go are scions of wealthy, influential families. To outsiders, it's shrouded in rumor and hearsay - to students, the things that supposedly go on just out of sight is the stuff of legend.

Every now and then, a student disappears without trace, only fueling myths of malicious, blasphemous research. The truth, though, is much worse.

She is the secondary protagonist of my anthology short story, Dead Meat. She's a butcher, the term for a sort of low-level corpse-fixer :D

This school both sounds super cool and super dangerous all at once XD Still... I think I would want to go there...   Do the school administration ever get in troubles if a student disappear since they're from rich and famous family?
