Guith (ˈɡɨːθ)

Guith is the the largest island of the Bay of Bees, and home of the Solennefrieden Lighthouse. Many claim that it is the most beautiful location in the entire Ynys Archipelago, and that an aura of peace and restfullness emanate from the lighthouse complex. Visitors to the island are welcomed with a hospitality that exceeds anywhere else in the Great Ring, and even those who come with ill intent find it difficult to deny their better selves once in sight of the lighthouse. Among those who love Guith, it is simply known as 'Home', and they make port there whenever they can.   Despite the warm feelings the island engenders, only few of those who love the place ultimately reside there. Those that do say they were called to it, and found that they fit perfectly into a particular niche within the community. Amazingly, those who are not called to live on the island permanently do not resent this fact - they know that it is still a true home to their spirits, and that they will always be welcome to come home for as long as they need to stay.   When the Candles are overhead, the island of Guith celebrates Kerzennächte, which was brought south by immigrants from the Norður Islands. During this season, the island's population balloons to an enormous number, as many people strive to be at home for the holiday. Those who have experienced Kerzennächte on the island are frequently moved to tears when reminded of it, and find that those memories can bring comfort during the darkest times of their lives.   The largest settlement on the island is Leuchtfeuer, on the northeastern coast. It is the only major port, and the busiest location on Guith. The Solennfrieden peninsula in the southeast is entirely given over to the Lighthouse and the priesthood that tends it; most of the ground is used as a sanatorium for those suffering from mental illness.

Notable Spirits

The goddess of Solennefrieden Lighthouse is the most revered spirit on the island. Throughout the island, people hang a lantern lit from the fires of the lighthouse outside their door, to represent their devotion to her ideals. Her name is not common knowledge outside of her priesthood - the most frequent title granted to her is 'Mother Solace'. It is at her direction that the people of Guith are so welcoming, and that her priesthood has undertaken the mission to help those who are ill, especially those afflicted with mental illness. Mother Solace is the spirit of homecoming, and seeks to help all people find their home, no matter how far they have wandered.

Geography

The island has a diverse landscape, despite its small size. The west coast of the island features dramatic white cliffs, with a series of chalk pillars known as the Towers rising out of the sea along the southwestern coast. Further inland, the island has farmland, hills, and woodlands. The island is shaped roughly like the letter 'T' tipped on its side, with the Solennefrieden peninsula set about one-third of the way up the north-south axis and extending far to the east.

Ecosystem

Guith has a thriving ecosystem, with many animals and plants calling the island home. Red squirrels are common, as are wild deer and wild goats. Like all the islands in the Bay of Bees, honeybees are very common, and the meadows are blanketed in wildflowers during much of the year. The island is particularly known for the lighthouse orchid, a white flower that grows nearly four feet high and seems to glow in the moonlight.

Climate

The climate of Guith is milder and sunnier than the rest of the Ynys Archipelago, except for Ynysow Syllan. During the winter, it receives a moderate amount of snow, mostly concentrated around the Interannum and Kerzennächte.
