Arcane Transfusion

Niffing has always been seen as a necessary, if terrible, part of Magic for many magical cultures. Too much magic used at once, and a mage bursts into flames or sustains serious burns that can disfigure, maim or even kill. Recent technologies like Arcane Transfusion promise to change this...once they become more commonplace and the number of mages trained in them increases, that is.

Magical Energy Transfer

Arcane Transfusion is meant to be used in emergency settings, so the amount of preparation and materials required is meant to be minimal. In order to provide Arcane Transfusion to someone, one would only need the following:
  • Proper training in the practice of Arcane Transfusion. Only very specialized centres of magical healing provide this service at the moment;
  • A Transference Rod (see sidebar) ; and
  • A willing recipient of the magical energy and a willing person to provide it. The trained person can be either of these people if necessary.
The mage with training in the science simply lays the Rod between the two people and both grab onto one end, with the trained mage pushing the required buttons to open the flow of magic. The one with the magical energy to be transferred concentrates on letting their magic flow into the device, and the person who needs the magical energy can draw it out at the same time. This process lasts as long as needed, and then both people let go of the Rod.
Classes on the new technology of Arcane Transfusion and its applications are offered at the Filarwo Hospital for interested parties or current medics who require technical upgrading.

A Medical Revolution

The invention of the Transference Rod and the process of Arcane Transfusion by researchers from the Filarwo Hospital Association streamlined and improved a process that already existed. Previously, mages who needed the extra energy to prevent exhaustion or Niffing required direct physical contact with a willing mage to draw on their energy, and the process was incredibly inefficient and slow. Now, magical first-aid responders and battlefield medics can simply use Transference Rods to quickly remove the deadly spectre of Niffing and other magical illnesses from people in a matter of moments. Continued advancements in this field promise to reduce the size of Transference Rods or use other items like rings or even clothing to transfer energy in this way.

Transference Rods

These small rods are about 50-60 centimetres in length and are often made of specially enchanted wood around a core of some material that is high (>80) on the Doroboros Scale such as crystals or the crushed bones of certain magical creatures. Like Magical Foci made from wood, they have a grabbing effect on anyone who touches them. Unlike Magical Foci, mages can store magic inside and have it be drawn out at the same time, which is why specially created Transference Rods are needed instead of staves and rods of other kinds.

I'm so glad that they are working out a way to avoid niffing, because it sounds terrible. This is a great idea, and I love the art. :D
