Hall of Sprawling Roots
Once a place of travel and commerce, the Hall of Sprawling Roots connected the Grand Aetheria to other locations in the Evad, across the continent, and even to the House of Life on Dremora. Now, for the safety of the Grand Aetheria, the portals have been closed and the Hall an empty, hollow reminder of the past.
Located at the base of the massive Aetheria Tree, the Hall itself is located underground at the central nexus for the Tree's massive, sprawling root system. A doorway has been carved into the start of the 14 largest roots in the network. Swirling filigree has been woven to create an archway; Aetheria weavers have drawn patterns into the wooden walls to create murals, iconography, and figures indicative of where the portal leads... if it was active.
In a clockwise fashion, the roots progress as follows:Root Location Description
Root | Location | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | The Frozen Vale | The fallen city of Winter, dedicated to Vale. Identical figures flank this doorway. A fey-like figure with branching horns and donning thick robes stands with hands cupped in front of him. In his hands, he holds a withered tree with a single leaf still hanging on. The figure’s face is obscured by a mask. |
2 | Borderlands | Gateway to the bogs, swamps, and stonelands of Malachor, Tamasvi/Thana, Eresh, and Mevetes. Left: A stern figure with pointed ears and straight shoulder-length hair sits with a quill in hand and parchment in another. A skeletal jackal with a scroll in its mouth hangs from the figure’s neck. The parchment he holds drapes across the form of a muscular woman asleep with her head on his lap. One of her arms is covered in a gauntlet bearing a carved skull. Right: A crouched lizardfolk clutches a staff of vine with a gemstone affixed at the end. Its form is draped in vines and leaves. Half of its face is obscured by a mask with vines that twist near the eyes. Nearby, another figure lurks with barely any differentiating features. The hair is long, obscuring the face, but vines sprawl out from her feet. |
3 | Ira Xand | A city rumored to be overflowing with wealth in the form of gems dedicated to the Jeweled goddess Ira Alexandria. Identical figures flank this doorway. A woman stands with shoulders rolled back and head high. She dons luxurious robes and every inch of her is covered in jewelry and gems. Multiple necklaces hang from her neck, multiple sets of earrings dangle from her pointed ears, and rings adorn her fingers, horns, and tail. |
4 | Borderlands | A narrow strait that marks the border between the lands of Orestia and the land of The Legislator, Geryon. On the left side, there is a shorter figure wearing baggy garments covered in pockets. Messy hair is restrained haphazardly, and the figure features an open third eye at the center of her forehead. On the right side, another shorter individual stands stiff and poised, figure obscured by heavy ornate robes that are perfectly balanced and symmetrical. Slightly pointed ears jut out from straight, long hair. |
5 | Kaos' City | Two identical figures flank this doorway. The figure is positioned in a half-bow with one hand extended out to one side towards the doorway. They are adorned with multiple layers of fabric and their face obscured by a cracked mask that smiles on one side and frowns on the other. |
6 | Fortune's Coast | The domain of the Gambler's god served as a launching point to regions of love and war. Two identical figures flank this doorway. A Yuan-Ti man donning a wide-brimmed hat that obscures his eyes. His grin is visible as well as a single fang. In one hand he holds a cane and in the other, a deck of cards. |
7 | Borderlands | Gateway to both the lands of the artist, Dio Ki, and the lands of craft, Kabiri. On the left side of the doorway is a stout, stocky woman with thickly dreadlocked hair. She stands behind an anvil with a large hammer hoisted across her shoulders. Her garments are multi-layered, but a thick belt is slung across her waist. On the right side of the doorway is a figure divided halfway down the center. His left side features curled hair and slightly pointed ears, while his right-side features webbed ears, scales, gills, and webbed fingers. His aquatic side holds swirls in its hand while the other hand delicately holds a brush. |
8 | Port City | Nestled upon still waters between the lands of travel (Agni) and the lands of sea and storm (Baharini'Hali). On the left side of the doorway is a more fish-like lizardfolk with long barbs hanging from his snout and a face that resembles a catfish. The space between taloned feet and clawed fingers is webbed. In one hand, he holds a staff with a kit affixed to one end. On the right side of the doorway is a mermaid who’s size dwarfs that of the door. Wild hair twists around itself until it forms tentacles splaying wildly behind her. With one hand she clutches a cloud and bolt of lightning. With another hand, she brings a spear down through a ship. |
9 | The City of Prosperity | Poised to capture trade from the central river system, the city was dedicated to the Trader's goddess, Prospera. Two identical figures flank this doorway. A small figure with pointed ears wears an elaborate diadem. Above her head floats an eye surrounded by 13 coins. Her garments are simple robes, but her wrists, neck, and ears are covered in jewelry. In her hands, she holds round stones. |
10 | The Wildlands | Near the forests, next to the lycanthropes of Otsana Daciana, and close to the rise and tower of Kesar'Arrat. On the left side of the doorway, a figure draped in a thick fur cloak adorned with feathers kneels. Long, wild hair frames a feminine face with feral eyes. In one hand, she holds a sphere. Behind her, the silhouette of a wolf has been carved, seated with head tilted upward. On the right side of the doorway, a broad-shoulder figure with long hair seems to be captured in mid stride towards the doorway. Claws adorn his fingers, fur bracers cover his arms, a pendant hangs from his neck, and his expression, partially obscured by hair, is somber. Behind him, a star has been carved. |
11 | Chasanya | The fallen city of Summer, dedicated to Chasca. Identical figures flank this doorway. A feminine, fey-like figure dons an elaborate headdress with foliage and feathers that resemble a peacock’s train. In one arm she holds a young child, while in the other hand she holds a spear. Someone has taken great care to carve the silhouette of fire in her eyes. |
12 | Orom'Rye | The fallen city of Autumn, dedicated to Saffra. Identical figures flank this doorway. A fey-like figure leans precariously against the doorway. Her hair is curly and filled with an assortment of leaves and her dress scandalous. In one arm, she holds a bushel of fruits, grains, and vegetables. In another hand, she clutches a mead horn. |
13 | Idyllis | The fallen city of Spring, dedicated to Eden. Identical figures flank this doorway. A young boy stands with a shepherd’s crook in one hand and a wooden shield adorned with carved flowers. His skin has been carved to have a wooden texture and flowers grow directly from his skin and around the base of his horns. His grin is both inviting and mischievous. |
14 | City of Life | Dedicated to the Dremoran goddess Tel'Rhea. Identical figures flank this doorway. A pregnant woman with long curly hair balances a bushel of flowers and fruits atop her head. Against her hip, she holds a young child. A flowing dress covers her form, but reveals roots extending from beneath the hem. |
