Haruki Hinode
King Haruki Hinode
Always Welcome
“Papa,” said a little voice, breaking Haruki’s train of thought. He looked down to see his daughter’s large golden eyes peering up at him, a small hand grasping the fabric of his trousers.
“Hm? What is it my flower?” he asked, placing a palm atop her head and petting her gently. Her face lit up at the touch, smiling happily.
“We have a present! Look, look!” Sora hopped excitedly, pointing behind her. There, a few feet away, was another child, holding a circlet of flowers in his two hands, looking shyly up at Haruki through the dark sheets of hair on either side of his face. The wreath shook slightly as the child held it out to the older elf, looking down at the floor in reverence.
Haruki smiled at the little boy, stepped closer, and knelt down to be at eye level with the two of them.
“May I have it?” he asked, carefully accepting the gift in both hands. The boy nodded, briefly meeting his gaze as the crown was exchanged. He was surprised at the quality of it, with neat and even knots, made mostly of pansies and large daisies. Haruki placed it atop his head. “How do I look?”
“It’s beautiful, Papa!” Sora hugged his knee excitedly, not able to reach any higher.
The boy looked at her, a wide smile crossing his face. Then he looked back up at the king.
“It looks very nice on you, sir,” he said politely, stepping timidly closer to his friend.
“Thank you, both of you,” Haruki said happily, then scooped each child one after another into his arms. They squirmed and giggled until finally they each settled, snuggling into him. “I like it very much.”
“Yoruko made it! He wanted to tell you thank you for letting us play together!” Sora blurted cheerfully, wrapping her small arms around her father's neck.
Haruki looked at the boy in his arms, who was blushing but still smiling nervously. Haruki chuckled.
“You will always be welcome, little one.”

Sexuality
Other rumors, mainly from Davidians, implied that he was simply gay and Sayaka was his beard. While this wasn't the case, it was taken as fact by a small group of people and did little to endear him to them.
Education
He was also tutored in swordplay and was quite skilled at it. However, once he became king, he gave it up, feeling there would be better uses for his time.
Accomplishments & Achievements
- Rather famously knew every common (and several uncommon) languages used in civilized societies.
- Managed to raise his daughter without passing down his trauma.
- Was well thought of in certain circles for his leniency with criminal sentencing.
Failures & Embarrassments
- Being generally accepted as being at fault for his older brother's death through nefarious means.
- Ruling many Genosian settlements with too soft a hand to control them.
- Several breaches of southern borders during Trolltides.
- Inability to come to term with his wife's passing.
- Being incapable of accepting Sora was not at fault for Sayaka's death.
- Failure to address Yoruko's anguish to prevent the castigation.
Mental Trauma
Next was the passing of his wife Sayaka, who died from stress-related birthing complications. This left him nearly despondent for the rest of his days. Having been raised to believe that a ruler must be an island, he never sought help for this affliction, instead internalizing his sadness and self loathing until he neglected nearly every aspect of his life because of it.
Despite his best efforts to think logically about the situation, he held a secret (and unwanted) resentment towards his daughter for his wife's untimely demise.
