The First Civilization - “Those That Came Before”
The First Civilization, often referred to as "Those That Came Before," is an ancient civilization native to Requerm that only exists in the modern day as leftover ruins of a bygone era, the mysteries surrounding their existence and disappearance rivaling The Dawn itself. They were gone long before The Dawn ever occurred, and the only reason anyone even knows that they used to exist is because of the various ancient temples, cities, shrines, etc that adenturers have found while exploring Requerm. Oral tales of the First Civilization are told by the existing native tribes in Requerm as well, although they have many different names and conflicting stories of these ancient people, so researchers generally consider these tales unreliable information.
While these ruins were being discovered ever since The Dawn occurred, it wasn't until The Harbingers of the Rising Dawn uncovered nearly-intact ruins hiding in Great Beast -infested land that research on this civilization began, with King Daerius Quintus of Krakonia being the man to coin the term "The First Civilization." He believed that it wasn't a coincidence that they mysteriously disappeared one day, attributing the mystery to the very same mystery behind The Dawn, despite there not being any actual evidence to support such a conclusion. Regardless of this lack of facts, the Harbingers set forth to learn what they could about the First Civilization, knowledge that would one day be used as a basis for establishing The Kingdom of Krakonia 's budding culture, laws, and customs.
Information pertaining to The First Civilization's Pantheon in particular has been helpful to scholars, as many of the discovered ruins seem to point to the influence of these deities on Requerm as a whole. According to historians, this pantheon affected every aspect of the ancient culture, right down to the formation of the civilization's Calendar and its many holidays. The name of the plane itself, Requerm, is based on the name of the goddess that, according to the ancient literature, created the plane in the first place. The quadrants of the world map are also named after many of the deities in the pantheon.
Despite Krakonia's push to learn everything it can about The First Civilization, there is very much a plethora of information yet to uncover about this ancient society. The Adventurers Guild of Krakonia(AGK) , in conjunction with The Scouts Guild of Krakonia(SGK) , often pays adventurers for any new information that they uncover about the First Civilization, even if they are not currently undergoing specific behests pertaining to said information. There is a high priority given to behests created when the kingdom believes information pertaining to The First Civilization can be found in specific locations. Information pertaining to the "Fall of the First Civilization," or "The Fall" for short, is considered particularly valuable, as well as difficult to find.
