The Dawn
The Dawn is perhaps the single most important event in the history of Requerm , or at the very least -modern- Requerm. The term refers to the bizarre moment when countless individuals from various, seemingly random planes of existence, were all warped to Requerm with no rhyme or reason to chosen people, locations, times, or any other possible metric, forcing all kinds of people to suddenly contend with each other as well as their violent natural surroundings, particularly the many Great Beasts that have called Requerm their home since time immemorial. Even typical plane-shifting magic was not enough to allow escape from this new reality, confounding even the most intellegent wizards that appeared during this time. It was such a pivotal moment that scholars soon deemed it "The Dawn of the New Era," later shortening it to "The Dawn" for colloquial reasons. The event itself now marks the start of the modern timeline, which coincidentally coincided with the new year on Requerm on M'Rach's 1st Oath, 1 AtD, with the AtD being the important part to note here. AtD stands for "After the Dawn," which is just another way of saying "The New Era."
The strangeness does not end here, however. Ever since The Dawn, people have continually appeared in Requerm from other planes, just as they did that fateful day. This phenomenon has since been dubbed "The Effects of the Dawn," sometimes referred to as "The Effects" for short. It has gotten to the point that it is normal for people to track their "Dawnday," the day they first appeared in Requerm, just as closely as people do their own birthday.
No one really knows anything about The Dawn, other than that it most certainly altered the course of history, forcing a plethora of different cultures from quite literally different worlds to suddenly coincide. Needless to say, this caused a lot of conflict, particularly with the native tribes of Requerm that suddenly had to share their space with these planar refugees. Conflict eventually hit a boiling point when The Unification Wars were declared in an attempt to unite all these different cultures under a single banner. This eventually resulted in the founding of The Kingdom of Krakonia , a nation that, after the war, set out to research the Effects of the Dawn in greater detail, with their many newfound resources and lack of immediate, dangerous enemies.
As part of these efforts, King Daerius Quintus of Krakonia has encouraged adventurers to explore the many ruins of The First Civilization , or "Those That Came Before," an ancient civilization from well before The Dawn by explorers that appeared after The Dawn. He believes that there is a correlation between the nature of The Dawn and the mystery behind how The First Civilization died out, an event people have tentatively referred to as "The Fall of the First Civilization" or "The Fall" for short. No one currently knows how or why The First Civilization disappeared, only that they do not exist anymore.
Many planes of existence have been referenced by those that were ripped away from them into Requerm, but there do seem to be some planes where the majority of people appear from. It is notable that even amongst people from the same plane, they do not seem to come from the same time periods, or even perhaps the same worlds. It is theorized that there are parallel worlds that different people seem to come from, but it is also entirely possible that these discrepancies can be hand-waved away as unreliable information from confused citizens. Regardless, not too much is known about all of these different planes other than word of mouth, which, as mentioned, is unreliable at best. What is known, however, are the names of the most prominent planes people seem to come from, names that were assigned by scholars to try and make sense of The Dawn. These planes are as follows: Golarion , Nirn , Hydaelyn , Ivalice , Miasma , Hylia , Terram , and Earth . This is not an exhaustive list, as many more planes of origin are theorized to exist based on the stories of those who appeared as part of The Effects of the Dawn. The above list is simply a list of the most well-known ones.
