Occultist Log

This document will be utilized to track the incense recipes that have been developed and the locations that the ingredients were found. When new recipes are discovered they will be added here! It will also track other occultist information such as methods of spiritual warding and more!

Fjarverand - Unsure if this is an animal with physical form or a spirit...whatever it is it was some form of occult phenomenon. Not much was learned besides that The Field Guide tends to have some helpful information. Though it'll never be studied if it is never seen.

Wisps - Found a group of wisps in this pristine area where Kaswink got her frog and monkeys and stuff. Managed to get 5 of them. They're all sorts of pretty colors and their auras seem to reflect nearby people and the forest as a whole rather than being a personal thing. Very empathetic. Many uses if there's time to process them. They can be made into Spirit Salt, or if processed slightly differently they could be made into something that can force people to experience extreme empathy. Could be useful.   Basic Warding Circle - Croak provided some helpful information as to how to prepare a basic warding circle to protect everyone against most spirits. This information will be quite valuable to future tourists. The recipe was simple, and application was beyond easy as all that really needs to be done is placing a layer of the mixture all the way around the camp. Just make sure there aren't any holes in the line. The amounts listed are the most base amount for a ratio, adjusting for the circumference of the individual camp is important to consider.
  • 2 parts Spirit Salt
  • 4 parts dirt or sand from the center of camp
  • 1 part dried and processed Sage, Dill, Rue, Oregano, Rosemary or Thyme.
    • Croak used Sage for his.
Spirit Salt - Made two uses of Spirit Salt. This involved boiling and emulsifying the wisps that were caught with water and other ...occult chemicals.   Empathetic Salt - The empathetic nature of the wisp's auras encouraged some more empathetic seasoning be created. The process wasn't too unsimilar to making Spirit Salt, made one use of this ingredient.

Winter Hart - Encountered a creature known as the Hart of Winter or Winter Hart. There were unique auras around each of its 7 candles that seemed relevant to the solstice. After communing with it and providing some food and comforts it gave us some of its candles to relight with our own warm thoughts.   The Content - Encountered one that had a candle for a head, one that had a festive sweater and fuzzy antlers, lots of other types too. They're all tall, and there's an entire town filled with them that's built around The Spirit of Christmas. They say that Euphoria is at the center, and that we will find bliss there.   The Spirit of Christmas - Croak first told us about this spirit when we broke through a rather unexpected layer of ice. It seems to be capable of altering reality, emotions, forces emotions upon people. Been feeling hopeful, generous, euphoric...but it would be nice to feel those things instead. Tasked with hunting it down and removing it from the forest somehow. Croak called it a type of Euphoria spirit, this suggests that others like it are out there.   I was able to communicate with the spirit, but its mind was distant, like it was being pulled away from me or trapped in some other way. Looking towards what was trapping it caused my own mind to be pulled, stretched like taffy as it twisted into the ground, though my own perception was simultaneously motionless where I meditated. These Twisting Stumps were the culprit, their song a source of madness.
Paranoia - This creature has apparently been stalking Hysteria since we arrived in this Spirit World, and it finally revealed itself after a rather dangerous application of Empathy Salts. It was made of swirling dark smoke with eyes constantly staring at us, judging, claiming that we would betray each other. We were able to fight against it, overcome these feelings, and thankfully have a nice long talk the next day. An incredibly dangerous spirit. Was able to harvest one of its eyes, planning on improving Hysteria's armor with this.

The Citizens of Greed - Not sure if these really count as spirits, but they shared the same yellow aura, and the way they spoke sometimes seemed like they had a single mind. They sold us a lot of useful items in exchange for ... not very much, except Frode's memories of the encounter with Paranoia. That was a lot. Apparently they can take memories and they are related to that candle we found in The Maze.

Sage Talisman (Placeholder Name) - In an effort to better protect the base against rude spirits, several talisman have been constructed utilizing Sage and a ritual that calms the mind and imbues even more of the sage's ability to dispel negativity through smudging and some special tea made by DAN.
  1. Prepare some Sage stems, the fibrous parts, enough to craft a wooden disk about four inches in diameter.
  2. Dry and powder additional sage fibers and mix with some water and sap to make a binding agent to glue the sage stems together.
  3. Using the binding agent, align several sage stems and let them dry before trimming into an oval and sanding down into a smooth oval shape.
  4. Light the sage smudge and enjoy some Long-bearded Ginseng tea. Fill the ritual area with as much sage smoke as possible to negate any negative energy in the area.
  5. Enter a spiritual trance while calming the mind with tea and sage. While in the heightened spiritual state begin carving into the talisman. After the carving is finished apply a layer of the ginseng tea and gently shake some of the burning sage smudge onto the talisman so that the ash sticks to the wood.
  6.   I managed to make four talisman to hang up around the base. This should cover the walls at the very least and more can be made to protect the cabin once it is finished. The design carved into the talisman looks like a shield with a closed eye and roots growing from behind the eye.

Aotrom's Breath (incense recipe) - On Nurend 09, 308 I was able to find a resin producing tree while helping with the construction of the cabin. After running it by DAN, I was able to begin the process of making the sap into a dried form to be used in incense. The resin smelled beautifully strong, sweet, flowery, balsamic, woody, and slightly grassy and would be a welcome addition to the existing aromatics at hand. After further drying and combining with a base and some water they were ready to be dried. Since this was a new and unique recipe it needed to be dried slowly before any attempts to speed dry with Agave's magic could be had.
  • One part Sundrenched Sweetgum resin
  • two parts base, any wood will do but we had some powdered wood from the construction available so I used some Stonebark Ipê
  • one part water or until a desireable consistency forms and everything is combined. If too much water is added it will likely just take a lot longer to dry and could end up being more "crumbly".
After it had dried we were able to enjoy the wonderful scent as it filled the camp area while everyone else worked. The dreary, rainy day was still happening around us, but the incense seemed to cause feelings of being in a sunny meadow and yearning for the shade of a nearby tree. It was very surreal. They weren't visions or hallucinations, just a feeling...the feeling of being somewhere else and warm on a pleasant day. A name also filled my mind, though I have no idea what Aotrom is.

Leshy - While looking for Tympi, we happened to spot a strange green wolf creature. Its fur seemed to be made of grass and it had pink flowers growing from behind its ears. It led us through the forest, and, while there was some worry that it might be a trap (especially from Hysteria), we eventual learned what it was leading us to was a strange dark area of the forest. It refused to go any further, but we found some bones and held a funeral for the supposed druid that died here without any burial rites.   The Well of Darkness - A bit further beyond the bones we burried, we found a large circle of land that was completely dead or, at the very least, blackened by some unusual and filmy substance. At the center of this circle there was a pit that was about 5 feet in diameter and filled with a strangely liquid-like darkness that was reminiscent of what was seen in the dreams we had of Tympi. The darkness was capable of nearly dragging Kaswink into the pit and nearly destroyed her arm, and the sides of this pit were made of stone with carvings of a centipede coiling around it. Agave was able to conjure some moonlight which caused the darkness to compress into an Unusual Fragment.   Ilven's Disappearance - We met the supposed queen of the forest, Ilven, and were taken to a camp. At the center of this camp was a statue with a poem which blinded most of us when read. While we were blinded, Frode was able to see Ilven be consumed by the same unusual darkness which poured from a jar that she was offering us. The jar supposedly had a moth inside it that resembled Tympi before it was suddenly filled with darkness which overflowed and consumed Ilven.

The Sinkhole - While traveling through Pluarsh ec Relovut, we were attacked by some foul smelling plants called Death Blossoms. As we were on death's door, Kaswink finally defeated them as a sinkhole opened up underneath us along with a familiar looking pit. The undead that were springing up while we fought the flowers ended up diving into this pit, and they were also begging for death while crying out in agony.   Agave tried the same moonlight trick on this pit, but it caused the usually white light to become a blood red, the ground shook, and a voice called out to us. Whatever is involved in this, likely the Božena that the zombie told us about, it seems to be VERY anti-circle, and she needs to be stopped. We've made note of the location and will return some day to deal with the necromancer.

Lemostodrensa - A wall at the edge of the swamp, it spoke with a language that was half understood but also half lost. It was easy enough to get past and prove our "worth", and there was definitely something spiritual about it.   Aotrom - At least, I Think it was her. Resembled the statue, but was very short and childlike for a diety. Though, when she touched my cheeks and hand I felt an unusual warmth similar to what was felt when I prayed at the statue, like I was sunbathing... it was uncomfortable though not drying? When I tried to leave she shook her head "no" and frowned, she had been so cheerful until then.
