Wisps

Wisps are Spirits which can be encountered throughout The Gates and other layers of the Spirit World.   They are rather carefree spirits, described by The Writer as "They float about, not much else to be said. Real pretty, all sorts of bright, glowing colors. On some layers they are supposedly more hostile, the ones in the Gates are friendly enough though."
The Spiritual Travelers encountered some Wisps on Nurend 04, 308 during their first venture into Tympi's Forest. Namina was able to capture all five of them for further research and utilization.   More wisps were found by Namina on Nurend 05, 308 with the help of DAN Wildcloak. Namina was able to collect 6 more of them for additional research and salt.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Each wisp is made up of light and likely weightless. The coloring and appearance of their tendrils varies depending on what "Layer" of the Spirit World they are found on.   The wisps that were encountered by the Spiritual Travelers in the forest were points of white light with tendrils extending out in all directions. These tendrils were a gradient ranging from the white at the center of the wisp to an off-white version of various colors at the tips.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

It is possible that they could be used for any number of purposes including being rendered into Spirit Salt which could be used to improve certain rituals, ward against spirits, used in cooking to some end, and so forth... This involves processing the wisp through mysterious occult means until it is completely infused with salt water (and other mysterious ingredients from the Occultist Tools), it would then be boiled through special means until all that remains are "salt" crystals.   They could also be used, based on their empathetic ability, to alter the emotions or aura of somebody to match another's. This can be useful for situations where somebody stubborn might need to see another side of an issue, or understand how their actions are affecting others. Using it for this purpose is not unlike rendering it into Spirit Salt and would involve much of the same process, however, rather than drying out the concoction and collecting crystalized Wisps at the end, one would need to utilize the "liquid" state and add it to a culinary, occult or apothecary recipe.   Baking it into cookies, or adding it to a broth, or a wine or something are all culinary options while potions or poisons would be apothecary. One could also make it into an incense as an occult option.
Underground Garden
Looking to find a way to safely grow crops while also not taking up too much room in the Expedition Base, DAN has opted to help Namina study these wisps with hopes of encouraging life to grow without sunlight or different light at the very least. Namina discovered that the wisps seem to show up when new and diverse plants are growing, when plants are being cut down/harvested as this paves the way for new life, and she also found out they seem to just enjoy her ability to see their auras.   Because of all this, along with their connection to the forest in general, DAN believes that a sort of symbiotic relationship between these wisps and their underground farm could be developed. With enough wisps giving off their lively light, maybe no sunlight will be needed at all.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

It is unclear on whether or not they perceive anything in a traditional sense, however, they do seem to be capable of reflecting auras as Namina was able to observe that their aura was more that of the Forest at large than the wisp's own. This would suggest that they can feel the auras of other people or areas and express it as their own, meaning they are incredibly empathetic creatures.
