Shogu Holding (SHOW-goo)

A Shogu Holding refers to both the military pseudo-division of the Itoqir cadet corps and its specialized training barracks in a given city. Prospective Risho train here for a maximum of two years before their formal graduation into the Itoqir military proper, though in times of strife this training period has been shortened to six to nine seasons. A graduating class is referred to as “the [#] Holding”; the latest graduating class is the 215th Holding (a six-season holding), the majority of which were killed in the Massacre of the 215th five days before their graduation ceremony. The current Chief Warden is Orihne Basania.   Training is overseen by specialized instructors known as Wardens who are often ex-military themselves, such as Aramastus Danig. Children between the ages of fifteen and eighteen and young adults between nineteen and twenty-one are accepted. It is as largely self-sufficient, live-in, bootcamp-like establishment, with cadets not returning home except for once a year throughout unless exceedingly special circumstances are deemed allowable by the Chief Warden. Shogu are otherwise 'weeded-out' in a series of dismissals taking place once per season either due to unsuitability and often directed to more suitable civilian professions.   All Shogu receive a broad scope of training in their first year consisting of basic combat and tactical skills expected of Nalir as well as introductory to intermediate levels of training in specialized areas related to generally-accessible divisions (Mulir, Razakir, Qalir, Fiir if predisposed), regardless of whether they entered the Holding with a predisposition already (such as coming from a family line of Razakir). Their second year builds on this basic Nalir training in addition to offering those with particular aptitudes to specialize. Throughout, they receive basic formal education in reading/writing, arithmetic, and first aid.   The Chief Warden often has a designated Jal liaison to the Tothjal, but it is not unheard of for the Chief Warmaster or a civilian governing body (such as the Korzhûn Stewardship) to be involved as well.
