Sorrowel

"Upon the silent western shores of this beautiful densely wooded continent I said goodbye to the closest thing to a daughter I have ever known. Sorrowel is fitting name for a place that seems to be cursed by rivalry and misery, I have no true fond memories from this place and those who live here don't seem to have many either." -Thorn Wood   The woodlands of the Bleak Wing Forest wrap along the western and northern coast of the continent, butting up tightly to the harsh cliff slopes of the Dragon-Fang Mountains. The forest is home to many strange and fantastical creatures and peoples, it is here beneath the dense canopy of the Dragon Pines that the Jade Dragon Empire makes its home. The people of the empire are fanatical and loyal to their emperor whom they claim is a fallen god, sent down to deliver them from the cruelty of their early savagery. They are superstitious and extremely warry if not outright hostile to any outsider. The only reason I was every able to step foot inside that kingdom was because I was accompanied by the late princess Akri, and it was by order of the emperor himself that I am now forever forbidden from returning. Like the people of the empire, the pines of the forest are unyielding, their color does not change from summer to winter, and the entirety of the forest is always a level of green even in the deepest of winters. The rain within the forest pours down in buckets during the spring, providing much needed nutrients for the forest to create its dense and tangled underbrush come summer. Erupting from the center of the continent is the largest mountain range in the world, the Dragon-Fang Mountains, named for its resemblance to the fang of a dragon, the sides of which sweep down both the eastern and western coasts of the continent. The mountains remain snow capped all year round, and the runoff from these peaks creates a massive river valley down the center of the fang, this river is named Dragon Tear and the valley that surrounds it is known as the Dragon-Fang Valley. The valley is sparsely wooded, and largely made of rolling foothills populated mostly by tall shrubs and grasses. The Dragonfyre River flows down until it collects into a large inland sea at the very center of the continent, from there two rivers extend east and west until they dump into sea on either side of the continent.

Geography

The continent of Sorrowel is located for to the east, past the treacherous waters of the Devil's Chain Islands and the Restless Sea. The continent's northern and western coastlines are covered by Bleak Wing Forest, a massive and ancient boreal forest made of strong and sturdy every-greens and some looming redwoods that tower into the misty sky like great woodland watch towers. The canopy of Bleak Wing Forest runs up to the high foothills of Dragon Fang Mountains, the largest mountain range on the continent, whose twin ranges form a V shape that resembles that of a dragon's fang. The fang finds its tip in the far north of the continent, with Dagger Mount, the tallest mountain of the chain. The mountains extend southward, bisecting the continent and forming a large river valley down its middle. The Dragon Fang finds its base at the center of the continent stopping just before the shores of the river that runs down its middle and splits at its base. The continent's eastern shore is cliff faced and sports a large and barren landscape that pushes up to the sharp slopes of the fang's eastern range. This arid region is split into two smaller areas, to the north is the Goliath Wastes, a stretch of frigid northern steppes and tundra that extend down from the Bleak Wing Forests Northeastern edge all the way down until it fades into the cliff hilled slopes of the Draconian Steppe. The Steppe is a southern stretch of cliff steppes and rolling hills that slope down to the cliff shores at the center of the continent. The Draconian Steppe runs down until it hits the Eastern arm of the Dragon Tear, the river that flows from the center of the fang mountains. Then forms The Khan's Gap, a narrow stretch of land between the final southern peaks of the fang's eastern range and the shores of the Tear's eastern arm. It is here that the Great Khan, road his hill drakes across the surface of the Dragon Tear and into the depths of the Veldin Jungle to chase out the Lucasian invaders.   The Dragon Tear flows down from the base of the Dagger Mount, and collects the glacial water from the tops of the fang mountains until it collects within the Drake Eye, a massive lake set below the base of the fang mountains.
